Thanks for the info on Vale del Rei Hotel bridge sessions - we will certainly try and get to one of these when we're out over New Year if we can. Always weather dependent as if it is good weather we prefer to be outdoors.

We have been to the afternoon sessions in Hotel Baia Chrystal (on RH side about a mile out of Carvoeiro towards Rocha Brava) before (Tues and Thurs pms I think) and found everyone very welcoming and friendly there too.

To amplify the original post, we are a small friendly group which meets on Wednesday and Friday afternoons to play Duplicate Bridge. Unlike some of the larger clubs we are very relaxed and maintain a social atmosphere. We break halfway through the afternoon for refreshments outside on the pool terrace to socialise and get to know one another. Our group consists of a variety of nationalities but the accepted language of play is English. The Vale Del Rei Resort Hotel where we meet www.valedelrei.com is close to the EN125, is very easily accessible and has ample parking. The hotel has a very pleasant atmosphere which we all greatly enjoy. We are happy to welcome beginners and to introduce new players to the game. Introductory lessons can be arranged.

For any more information please phone 911561224 or 282 358885

Does anyone know if this group still functions? I used to play bridge a long time ago but would be very rusty now - I would love to find a group where I could re-learn in a fairly relaxed atmosphere!

Hello Babaliz. I am pleased you are asking for this information as it strengthens my request (below yours) for more activities information.

I hope you get some success from your query.

Roy (not a bridge player !)

Hi Roy4eyes - After many years of visiting CVO we have recently bought a property and intend to spend a lot more time here. It would be good to be able to find out on this site what's going on in the area - a bit of an uphill struggle for a 'newbie'! So, fingers crossed that your post encourages some responses.

I was led to believe they needed regular maintenance to prevent that. :|

Details of these regular bridge sessions are always posted in the weekly Algarve Resident newspaper under the What's On section. If I've interpreted the info correctly then you can play somewhere every day of the week except Tuesday (info on the Cristal Hotel sessions may be out of date):

Monday: At the Cristal Hotel, Carvoeiro. 1.45pm for 2pm
Wednesday: At Vale del Rei Hotel (see info above)
Thursday: At the Lagoa Hotel 1.45 for 2pm
or at the Cristal Hotel as above.
Friday: At Vale del Rei

I think the Lagoa Bridge club also does beginner sessions on a Friday?

Thank you to Iggy and the DBC crowd at the Lagoa Hotel for your welcome and an enjoyable (and successful!) sesh last Thursday. Hope to see you again in September.
