We had an excellent lunch here last week . Three courses plus couvert , large bottle of water, a glass of wine for me and a large beer for my husband for 12.50 euros each . It was quite busy and at those prices it is very good value. There is plenty of choice on the menu so should be something for everyone

We had a very poor experience there last night. Two disinterested waiters did their best to destroy a very average meal. Service was very slow even though there were only 14 diners. No attempt made to pour the wine or to ask us how our meal was. A second bottle of water never arrived and when it finally did after much prompting we were told it wasn't chilled. A request for ice to cool it down eventually resulted in 4 lumps in a bucket. A request for more ice eventually resulted in sufficient. When trying to pay the bill we were told their card reader wasn't working and we would have to go to an ATM to get cash. No apologies of any kind offered.

That makes sense. We had a similar experience to Barry's last week. Marco was not there and I did get the impression that Lagoa is the priority. A great shame as we'd enjoyed this place before. I understand they're aiming upmarket in Lagoa, which probably makes business sense given the couple of very well regarded places there already, and the customers clearly prepared to make the effort to get there.

Wandering around Lagoa yesterday, we re-discovered Tasquina, back where it started from. Marco and wife very busy there....we didn't eat, but the lunch menu of 9.5€ looked good...it's open in the evening, more expensive...waiting for first reports, or we'll try it out anyway!
Granny and baby back in residence!
Lot's eating there, inside and out.

btw, it's all very nice outside Chrissy's now that the roadworks have finally finished...the rather non-descript cafe just up from there, next to the florist, has taken on a new lease of life with outside tables....large tasty tosta-mixtas for 2€.

New topic started, a Tasquina Lagoa!

We saw Marco's father today and he told us that Marco is now working at a hotel in Ireland. The new owners are family members. We had two coffees there for Є1.40 and there is a prato do dia at Є8.50 daily, with three main course options. Lady serving was very pleasant, but here English is somewhat limited. We will try it one day this week and post a review. They are closed on Sundays. The evening menu is offered from about 8:30 pm on and is just a selection of tapas.

This restaurant is now catering to the Portuguese lunch trade, and seems to be doing very well as it was busy with locals. Two of the three owners were there, and we did ask in English if there was a table available, and one nodded and pointed to the back area. The same lady was serving and there were two lunch choices (no menu) which she tried to translate. One was cod with boiled potatoes, a mountain of chick peas and a hard boiled egg. The other was chicken with pasta. Starter was bread, olives and butter. The chicken was o.k. under the skin, the pasta was a mass of spaghetti with what looked and tasted like some juice from a tin of tomatoes. Very salty and not appetising. Pudding was chocolate mousse (ok) creme caramel (dry no caramel sauce) or fresh fruit salad. White wine was vinho verde and a good sized glass. Coffee after. Far better meals at other places for the price (Tia Theresa on the 125N for example is also Є8.50 ). Certainly not a welcoming feel, no one asked whether we were enjoying our meal or said goodbye. Based on today's experience we would not go back again.
