April Visit

Post by joeysoap »

In the footsteps of other posters.....

Just back and visited the following restaurants on our trip (prices are as presented)

California :Underrated Italian restaurant in centre of down, with an unlikely name. We like it for a number of reasons one of which is the size of portions (just right) two starters, two mains, one beer and one water €25. Cheap as chips but really good food. There was about 10 other diners in the restaurant that night.

Vila Nova: Lovely restaurant, little bit out of the way for us but well worth the effort. Two covers, two mains (both bream, beautifully cooked and presented - agree with Tricky, nobody does fish better) bottle of wine, bottle of water €49. We were the only diners in the restaurant last Friday, but the atmosphere was still very pleasant. The guy who runs it is really friendly. Deserves to do better.

Vimar: Adelino was playing so this was the obvious (to us) Sunday choice. One cover, one starter, two mains, bottle of wine, bottle of water. Good food in a nice restaurant, friendly guys running the show. €40. The place was buzzing with very few empty tables - maybe 40 diners?

Casa de Bife: The surprise package. The restaurant offers both a la carte and fixed menu. Cover, starter, mains, tea/coffee and a bottle of house wine for €32.50/€35/€45 depending on which menu you choose. We opted for menu 1. We both choose for Tuna on the stone. The veg and chips were excellent and you had the hot stone to keep them hot. Absolutely gorgeous. With a bottle of water €35. There was about 12 other diners in that evening. Totally enjoyable.

Happys: What can you say. Big man was in fine form. Place was packed (as usual). One cover, one starter, two mains, bottle of wine and a jug of water . When we finished our meal Libbe refilled our wine glasses with a bottle he had open. Bottle of Port produced (again, as usual). Food was excellent €35.

Enjoyed our trip, even if the weather turned during our stay.

Sorry you didn't have good weather Joey, but it still sounds as if you had a great time. Yes the fish at Vila Nova is fantastic, Anibal the manager is very careful where he sources his fish from and the chef is one of the best in the area. Glad you enjoyed it.

Certainly did enjoy it. I know its early doors but Vila Nova would not have even covered the energy bills that evening, hopefully they will have a good summer.
