Restaurante Sul Mar

Post by Bruce Wallis »

We have walked past this restaurant on the road between Rocha Brava and Benagil.
It looks as if it could be interesting. Has any body tried it. If so, is it one worth visiting??

Four of us had lunch there some years ago, various fish dishes with chips and salad. We sat in the garden and were the only guests there. The food had an overwhelming taste of garlic and we wondered if they had inadvertently mixed some garlic into their cooking oil. As much as I like garlic in appropriate food, I didn't appreciate it in my fish and chips, and as our friends had always tried to avoid garlic they weren't at all impressed. We haven't wanted to try them again so don't know if this was just a one-off slip up or a ploy to disguise the real taste of their food.

It's on the road to Benagil about a quarter of a mile before you get to the dip down to the sea.

love the way you can now drop the little yellow man (no, not chinese) on the street/road outside a restaurant and have a look at it. (Unfortunatley Sul Mar gates were closed when google was passing :( )

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants when we first came to cvo - family run, lots of fresh fish, reasonable prices etc - their fish cataplana was one of the best we'd had. But when we went there a couple of years ago the lovely daughter Susannah who did most of the waitressing didn't seem to be there any more and things had definitely gone downhill so we haven't been back. Our favourite in that direction is now Casa Lamy on RH side of Benagil beach - another family run business - excellent for simply grilled fresh fish and their prawn curry, and their homemade cakes which, for some reason or other they seem to hide away in the fridge near the kitchen area! Magic for sustenance when walking from Marinha to Benagil and back.
