Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
We went there last night after a break of several months and were quite impressed.
Although the price has now risen to €9.50 the range has been increased. Apart from the basic porco, peixe, peru, frango, bifstec, they were offering porco portuguese style and pork or chicken 'in the pot' - both of which were delicious. Soup, wine (topped up when empty), coffee and large liqueurs included.
In view of the I.V.A. increase and investment in new (comfortable !!) chairs the increased price is pretty reasonable.

Re: Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
From the 'Madonna' (just up from Frango Maluca at Boa Vista entrance) turn right towards Sesmarias, then turn left just before the 'tennis club roundabout', bear right past 'Casa Blanca' then shortly bear left and it is ahead.
Re: Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
One of my favourite places
Re: Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
The pork and chicken specials ( big casserole pots) are usually on mondays.....thursdays and saturdays are chicken nights without the soup option.....this place is always excellent value. Carlos now has new tables and chairs and you often get a pudding.....and we have discovered that if you ask nicely, they will do a large ham/cheese/onion omlette as well!

Does the omelette come with a fried egg on the top?Geoff wrote:The pork and chicken specials ( big casserole pots) are usually on mondays.....thursdays and saturdays are chicken nights without the soup option.....this place is always excellent value. Bet it does everything else does, p.s. has anyone been to chicken georges recently?
Re: Escondidinho (Casa do Pato)
This Casa de Pasto has always been good value - we have been using it for over 15 years now although the Carne Portuguese (Portuguese Pork Casserole) is not a new addition its been available for many years and the chicken dish has also been on the menu for some time. They tend to have different Portuguese dishes, alongside the usual tourist menu, on various nights - apart from the Thurs and Sat chicken and Chips nights. They also do a fabulous red fish dish if you phone an order in advance - but I believe there is a minimum number requirement on this dish, you would have to check it out with Carlos.
Here's to the next 15 years of good food at a great price !!!!

Re: Escondidinho
We visited this restaurant at lunchtime today and they are not doing an all-in price menu now. Shame as it's a lovely setting and was recommended to us. We decided not to eat there as were are on a tour of the 'budget' set menu places mentioned on this forum.
We happened to be passing a roadside restaurant yesterday lunchtime on the N125 just past Porches pottery on our way to the algarve shopping centre. It looked small from outside and had some tables under cover but was quite big and cosy inside.
Set menu was 7.50 euros each and included courvert, soup, choice of chicken or fish main course, dessert, coffee and drinks. Service was friendly (some English spoken) and food was wholesome, home-cooked good sized portions. Unfortunately I did not notice what it was called but would quite happily return there.
Hoping to try the Fatacil and Barca Velho (having trouble finding this one, not quite sure which road it's on).

sassy
if you come out of the fatacil gates, turn right and Barca Velho is on the left before the round-a-bout, there is a raised area outside to eat as well as inside.both these very good for the price

Thanks Cumbria Sue, will certainly go and check it out now.
RE: Previous post
Apparently there are 2 restaurants called Escondidinho and we obviously went to the wrong one for the all-in menu. We tried the one on the beach at Ferragudo by mistake. Have now been 'put right' by a friend and will be venturing out to try the other which we are told is also called 'The Ritz'!

We had lunch at the Fatacil place. Excellent value but a single helping of the battered codfish would have been more than enough for us both.
