BOTECO
BOTECO
This area with its cliffs and small bay is one of our favourites and we often walk down to watch the sunsets.
How good is Boteco, the menu is virtually identical to many others, is the food good ? are are you just paying for the location and views ?

Re: BOTECO
We go down there for drinks before going on into town for a meal, last time we were there we did say we should try the food as it looked lovely, fresh fish was barbecued outside and the portions were very good. It all smelt and looked fantastic.

Re: BOTECO
Suggest you read this previous thread on the subject.
According to very recent reports from guests, it has not changed.

I think Lesley has got the wrong restaurant
Re: BOTECO
Unfortunately the food is mediocre at best. It is such a shame, should be the best place in town.
Still a nice place to go for a sundowner though.

Re: BOTECO
Boteco probably has the best location in town, and consistently the worst reviews for its food. It's owned by the same people that own the Solferias Apart Hotel.
We had a campaign on this forum recently to encourage some enterprising chef to take it over and bring it to life. Sadly to no avail
It has good car parking though

Re: BOTECO
Being such a beautiful day I went there today with the plan to have lunch with a friend and give the place another (last) chance.
We paid 5 euros for a coke and a glass of nasty white wine and then went elsewhere to eat since the cheapest item on the lunch menu was 8 euros.
I wish the owners would wake up, clear out and let someone else take over this spectacular venue.
ps... we went to Nuno's instead and had couvert - the usual bread/butter/sardine pate. Steak with a fried egg, chips, nicely prepared vegetables, mixed salad, creme caramel, wine, coffee and brandy and paid 17 euros for both of us.

Its a great location and should have the freshest fish in town.
I caught two sizeable fish of the rocks there last week and one was BBQ,d within hours of being in the sea.
Like too many in the area they obviously make more than enough money in the summer from one time visitors to worry about what we residents or regular visitors think.
8euros for sardines or horse mackeral is probably OK for a seafront place but not for an out of the way restaurant.

Re: BOTECO
For any fish dish you would pay considerably more.
8 euros is what they were charging for a poxy burger.

I always thought that this was a fantastic location and that the town needed a good Thai, but thats only my opinion
Re: BOTECO
We have this debate on the forum every year round about this time, as we all look forward to our visits.
Yes its a fantastic location, yes the restaraunt is rubbish, and yes it could be turned into something
wonderful . As in previous years, it is also my dream along with lots of others, to club together and buy the place!
anyone up for it?

Re: BOTECO
Fantastic idea. I'm in.
We can have a little boxing ring set up in one corner, and when there are forum fights, the loser can get tossed over the edge ito the sea.
Mind you - it would make it a lot quieter on here ...

Re: BOTECO
I'm up for that Tricky.
Carvoeiros 2 so called up market restaurants, Ele&Ella, and the long overated l'Orange, both seem to be getting a wee bit tired, and need some competition.
The Boteco site would be a perfect location for an enterprising restaurateur.

Re: BOTECO
I had a nice 'sardina' salad at this restaurant....and some lovely fruit juice
..plus a very crusty roll & butter!
The views are gorgeous
But the best lunch Ive ever had was when 'our boys' cooked us mackeral over wood chippings on a grill over an oil drum.....Maria brought some fresh salad...delicious
