I agree Barry, we, like I suspect, many others tried Boteco because of it's location, and an illogical assumption that if it's there it must be good.
Places like that will always survive on that basis. But you know that relying on the one or 2 hit passing trade, isnt the receipe for long term success especially in the winter when you need a loyal local clietelle. Hence the success of places like Happys and A-Gale to name but 2.

Cos of all the 'interest' in this place,Im definitely going to give it a go in September
as I said before on a previous visit,my meal was satisfactory..simple sardinhas & salad simples, and as well as taking in the lovely scenery I found an interesting couple to talk to..
But next time I will be more on the ball regarding menu/service!(promise not to take my sandwiches
)
Barry, I love pub food. When I worked in the City I often went to pubs for lunch...the best grub!
And I had the best ever ploughmans at a pub in Sussex(nr Chichester)..it was quite sumptuous, hot bread rolls, selection of cheeses, pickles & chutney, plus salad & local ale
Im making myself hungry now, so off to have some dindin!

That was a joke based on the premise that English cuisine is not good. Sorry if it went over anyone's head.bifas 1st darling! wrote:many of us are British and therefore are possibly more used to a highly level of cuisine.
How rude to suggest that Dr. Wilfried Janke is used to an inferior level of cuisine.

My daughter has just returned from a holiday in CVO and visited this restaurant from my recommended list - we had one good meal there about 3 years ago. She was most disappointed in the long wait to be served and the quality of the food. My grandson who eats anything and everything had a child's portion of pizza, which consisted of one small slice plus half a dozen chips. The only saving grace was the view!

My wife and I went October 2006 and enjoyed the food and the service. Has it gone down so badly in only a year? We will be back on 7th October, should we give it a miss?gamalpass wrote:I think the restaurant is called Boteco - its the one on the top road coming out of the centre of Carvoeiro. We were really looking forward to a return visit as last year it had been so lovely. This year we returned to a rather shabby and tired looking Boteco. Sadly the food was not the best and so we decided to give it a miss for the rest of the holidays. Such a lovely outlook - what a shame.

Give it a go and lets us know - I have said in the past this place has always been good with us (although service can be slow, but I don't care about that) but I seem to be the only one that supports the place. It will be good to get another "supporting" opinion.hasthorped wrote:

Will certainly do that. As for service, the waiters were very attentive and good fun. Very nice to go to arestaurant that doesn't want you out of the way ready for the next influx of customers. We ate there 3 or 4 times in a week rather than trot up and down the hill looking for a parking spot! Nothing was too much trouble. Before anyone makes the suggestion, yes, we are familiar with good restaurants, and this was one of the highlights of our holiday in Portugal. Great location, good food, what more can I say? Any new eateries opened worthy of note in the past year?

I went to 'O Boteco's ' for lunch last Thursday, and have to say that it was fine!
My starter and drinks were brought right away. Had to wait about half hour or so for lunch (Sardinhas & salad simples)..but the waiters were okay and polite. I finished with a cafe com leite,
the bill was 14 euros..
I was 'blown out'..having eaten the 6 sardines!
The restaurant was fairly busy..but I just sat back enjoying that beautiful view and taking snaps with my new digital camera, that was very kindly bought for me by Steen
