Wot no Chicken George???? :o

Ok so hardly first class and about 1km out of the main town but if you want an 'interesting' dining experience and something very cheap and cheerfull, you can't go wrong (that is, of course, if it has not closed down since I was there last June).

Best restaurants

Post by The Skeftons »

Having just returned from my 1st visit I would say:

1) Ele & Ela
2) Ele & Ela
3) The Italian up the slope along from the taxi rank on Estrada do Farol(sorry can't remember it's name - possibly Via Italia)
4) Xico Ze (fantastic clam cataplana)
5) The restuarant on Caneiros beach (lovely lunch, not too cheap though, good service, great company - Jose Marinho was there!)

Bad food :
1) Can't remember what it's called, it has a bright "outside area" which is on Rua Dos Pescadores, the "indoor" part backing onto Rude do Barranco. The night we ate there the Portuguese football team were playing their quarter final qualifier game but all the same by Chicken was burnt as was my husbands steak - remember your customers need to leave happy!!!!!!

OK Food - wouldn't necessarily return!
1: Again can't remember the name (sorry guys) but as you walk from the square up Estrada do Farol you will go past the chinese, a little bit on from there is a restaurant with outdoor seating (prettily done except for the plastic chairs!). The food was okay but not the best. I would happily have gone again but my husband didn't enjoy our prawn starters as the shells were really hard to remove because they were fried!

2: The Pizzeria just past the taxi rank, one of the first restaurants you come to on the left after passing the "recycling area". The food was good particularly if you don't want anything too fancy! Reasonably priced.

Hope that helps someone - sorry I don't know the names but forgot to bring home the cards!

We don't really like to tell too many people about this well kept secret. It may get too crowded and I won't be able to phone Rei das Praias on 282 461 006. So please don't tell anyone :P

Ah nurtz, ER! Now we will only be able to get a table there in March 2007  :P

Top 5:
La Bella Vita - Italian (Club Atlantico)
Koh Samui - Thai (above O Cantinho)
O Cantinho - Portuguese (below Koh Samui)
Algar Seco - Misc (more for the location/views than the quality of the food - the club sandwiches are great, though)

I can only muster up 4 restaurants I would happily recommend to people in Carvoeiro - Bella Vita and Koh Samui have really set the bar high for service and food quality at affordable prices. The fifth is Galo de Ouro take away (chicken piri-piri) and the Rei das Praias at Carneiros, but that isnt really Carvoeiro anymore.

Head up to Sesmarias and take the road west along the coast to Ferragudo. After about 3 or 4 kms at the bottom of a steep dip you will find a road to your left that leads onto a beach parking lot - that is Carneiros Beach.

Thanks for that - and I promise not to tell anyone!

I hope to visit the restaurant when I'm over later in the month - how early would you say I need to book?

I'm staying near Vale De Milho, how long would you say it would take to get to Caneiros from there?
