A Vela

Post by e-llen »

Just had a very nice lunch at A Vela on Rua Barranco opposite Praça Velha. Been there several times and always enjoyed our meal. Antonia and her husband are very welcoming and as they lived in Swizerland for a few years speak German and French as well as English and other European languages. Worth a try. See if you can spot the Pavarotti look-a-like. ( Haven't heard him singing though !)

Had dinner here on Sunday, nothing special I'm afraid. We ordered and waited an hour for the food to arrive (they told us everyone had turned up at the same time, the tables inside were empty which meant it was the few tables outside!), by which time the children were VERY bored especialy the "little" one.

I ordered steak, which came with frozen chips (bleah  ) and a small salad. The chips were over cooked (possibly left over from another order), the steak was dry, tasteless and slightly burnt, the salad was O.K! the rest had caldeirada de peixe, pepper steak, pork steak, picanha and breaded steak (childrens menu).

We all agreed the meal was nothing special, the service was O.K., but not a place we'll go back to.

lunch is probably better than dinner as they have a dish of the day all ready prepared, maybe we chose a bad night :?

We have not had dinner there, only lunch, I don't eat meat and have always had fish filleted at table, so I have enjoyed that and John usually has pork dish (ok we're predictable) but have enjoyed meals.

We just go there more often the restaurant vela offers an excellent atmosphere, about 5 min walk from the centre you experience,
that someone takes care on small little details. You may choose from a large selection of à la carte or the daily menu offer which
appeals to adults and children. We exp. both this is a good quality restaurant address in Carvoeiro.
A true taste of Portugal awaits you where the owners take care on dishes you are served.

it was in the window of estate agents Winkworths at the back end of last year. They have re-arranged their window and it is no longer there...so maybe off the market
