Community Discount ?

Post by e-richard »

In a separate topic on the subject of Tax Changes, Biffa (perhaps tongue in cheek) suggests:
biffa wrote:Perhaps I can give cvo.com users 10% discount on any fees charged? Good idea??
Now there's a thought, but why should he ?

Should property owners (who also advertise on this site) offer 10% discount to registered users ?

What about other businesses who also advertise on this site ?

This site is an excellent self-help community and I for one have found Biffa's (and others) posts extremely helpful as a catalyst to then do my own research. I would have no problems using his services (at mutually agreeable fees) as a result of the postings, and would not feel pressured to use or not use his company.

On the other hand, if we, as a community, wish to promote registration at this site, then offering discounts may be a good idea. Lets look at the benefits for business and property owners:

- We promote Carvoeiro as a friendly place to visit - more bookings :D
- We build up the forum list that encourages more information sharing :D

And, remembering that dotcom companies are valued on the size of their registered user database, the real beneficiary might be Steen. So should we suggest that Steen offers a 10% discount to registered users who advertise on Carvoeiro.com.

OK, I've rambled on a bit, and I desperately hope that my wording has not offended anyone. I did not intend to get so intense.

Personally I think we have an optimal balance between commercial sense where my back-of-the-envelope calculations determined that Steen is just covering his costs to make this website available and certainly isn't overcharging or making millions, and we as subscribers add value to the site through voluntary mutual self help.

I'd certainly be interested to hear Steens view on the "commercialisation of CVO.com", but in the absence of some direction from him, I like things the way they are. What say you all ?

A couple of very good points, Richard.

I would like to latch on to one in particular:

I find cvo.com unites people from all over the world with one common interest - the little sunny spot in the Algarve called Carvoeiro.
I am amazed and a little bit distressed at how few buisness owners in cvo have adhered to this advertising surface :!:
Is internet really that far behind in Portugal that people do not realize the potential of a good webpage hosted on a site which almost guarantees consumer interest in the advertisers field?

Independent of any comission based services or recomendations, every buisnessperson or houseowner in cvo has to admit, that there is no advertsing surface as cost efficient as cvo.com. (I will take a beer and a bowl of chips for that one, Steen  )

Additionally, the more quality services are offered, the more users will come to cvo.com - you put your url on your buisness card and voilá.
Your webpage is and unlimited advertising space which you could load with information, promotions, etc - all of which would cost you a fortune if you had to place it in form of an ad in the paper or broadcast over radio.

This is a call that already went out several years ago - with next to no result - "internet, we don´t need no internet!" - 30-odd buisnesses at the moment
Since this forum went online, cvo.com has gained enourmous momentum and the volume of information exchange is amazing. I would like to see this town leap into the 21st. soonish.
