Fiscal representation after Brexit
Fiscal representation after Brexit
We are UK resident with property in Carvoeiro. We do not rent out, nor have a business in Portugal. We currently have our IMI invoices sent to us at our UK address. We have been told we will need a Fiscal Representative after Brexit. Is this correct? If so, what arrangements have other non-residents made?
Re: Fiscal representation after Brexit
We are in a similar boat, though CC currently manage our property and pay IMI on our behalf....we use Sovereign for tax who say on their website :
So, it seems that you don't need one at the moment, but MAY after Brexit ( if & when etc etc) ....Any non-resident individual or company resident outside the EU owning property, holding a bank account or with any other commercial activity or interest in Portugal must by law appoint a Fiscal Representative registered with the Tax Department.
Re: Fiscal representation after Brexit
Yes, it looks like we do not need one as yet as only tax due is IMI, and they are still sending to our UK address. May need one after Brexit. Looked at Sovereign, who make an initial charge for Fiscal Rep registration, then annual fee. May appoint them in January as their new charge year starts then, and we may be liable for additional tax next year.
