Exchanging UK Drivers licence to PT one

Post by Sandy »

Has anyone got any definitive info on what’s needed in Faro?
I’m assuming the usual: money, medical certificate, passport, residencia. Anything else I need?
Are there any local companies that will assist/walk me through it?
From what I’ve heard already the whole process sounds dire.

I did mine two weeks ago. You need: medical certificate, residencia and a copy, drivers licence, your contribuinte card and a copy and 30 euros. Best advice is to get to IMT in Faro as early as possible as they only issue 40 tickets per day and the backlog is horrendous. We got there at 7.45 and there were 17 people in front of us. Once we were inside and got the ticket ( ticket G) we were an hour and a half. Be prepared for the wait. You can go to Beja if you want as I understand that the queues there aren't as bad. There are people who will do the exchange for you but they generally charge around the 85 euros but cannot speed up the process as the paperwork still have to go to IMT in Faro.
