Does anyone has a recommendation for a solicitador to help with the process of buying an apartment in Carvoeiro? Two lawyers I contacted want €1500 + 23% IVA, which I think it too expensive!

Actually, Rui and Paulo Mendes were one of the lawyers that quoted €1840, which I think is too much. I think I need more a solicitador than a lawyer. I am Portuguese living in the US. I know how the system works in Portugal, I just need someone to check documentation and, if I don't have time to do it, transfer the utilities contracts. Not much more than that.

I had a horrendous experience with Rui. He charged me 2,500 Euros and made a mistake calculating the property sale tax, which I luckily picked up on otherwise it would have cost me almost 1,500 Euros extra. He then took out a clause in the contract without first asking me, relating to guaranteeing the pool would be free of any leaks. I had to pay 1,500 Euros to get a leak fixed, which appeared within a few days of the sale taking place. He also didn't bother to translate any of the documents he sent to me, or even explain what they were.

We used Manuel Sousa, based in Silves for buying our villa 11 years ago and sorting out Portuguese wills a couple of years ago - efficient and reliable - would definitely recommend him. We had translations of everything so that we knew what we were signing.

Thank you everybody for the information. I ended up hiring Manuel Almeida Sousa. He gave a very reasonable quote. I will be using him and, hopefully, soon we (my wife and I) will be new owners of an apartment in Carvoeiro.

Just an updated:

We bought an apartment in Monte Dourado (the buildings facing Rua do Barranco, not the ones on the top of the hill), and used Manuel Almeida Sousa has the Solicitador/Solicitor. His services were top notch and I will recommend him to anyone who needs help with the process of buying a house. We are now official Carvoeiro residents (part-time)
