Portugal will get a new Prime Minister ?
Re: Portuguese Primeminister resigns
Probably heralds an EU bail out for Portugal and a lot of unwelcome fiscal implications ie increased taxes.
Re: Portuguese Primeminister resigns
brilliant isn't it? 5 parties vote against the Govt's austerity package forcing the PM's resignation; this will mean that Portugal will need a bailout from the EU which will come with all sorts of terms & conditions forcing austerity measures!steve wrote:Probably heralds an EU bail out for Portugal and a lot of unwelcome fiscal implications ie increased taxes.
scratching my head a bit to see the point of voting against measures that are in the country's control - now they'll have to accept terms from Brussels.
Re: Portuguese Primeminister resigns
Simply too large a public debt. Far too many taking far too much for far too long. Portugal is like a guy having all his credit cards up to the limit and insufficient income to pay the minimum.
The party is over I am afraid and we will all have to face the music a result. Quite honestly the whole country is in a chaotic mess. Nice place but ....

As another Euro catastrophe hits, I wonder if those few Escudos I still have in my top drawer will once again be usable ?
Re: Portuguese Primeminister resigns
They might well be usable sooner than you think but you might need a wheelbarrow load when you go to Intermarchee-richard wrote:As another Euro catastrophe hits, I wonder if those few Escudos I still have in my top drawer will once again be usable ?

There is a very good article in the Telegraph today, page 24, about the very serious
problem that Portugal has. In my opinion they should never have gone into the Euro.

As with Greece the economic figures were massaged to get us in!
Re: Portuguese Primeminister resigns
Has no one seen the Portugal news or is this just a wind up as today is the 1st ??that the new Primeminster is going to charge expats an extra 50% in tax if they are Brits everyone else gets charged less, we get charged the extra as we had the nerve to stay out of the euro, and they will ask us for a handout, guess what you don't have to guess we will give it to them, how he is going to prove who owns what when they go shopping your guess is as good as mine,it's supposed to be on petrol DIY and grocery shopping.
