Yearly car tax

Post by maccasa »

I understand that you get your car tax either from the tax office in Lagoa or "selected" news agaents. Is this correct? if so which ones AND what documents do you neeed to take?

If you have a user name and password at the Financas you can do this online. The system identifies your vehicles to you at your registered address. I find it much more convenient but you do have to be registered for online activity. You can certainly do it at the Financas office but I presume that you would have to purchase and fill in a form and also present the vehicle documents ( single new style card or the old blue and green cards). No doubt there are people who can give you chapter and verse on this.

The Financas is all in one building. The Camara, however, is a different matter.

"Car tax" now has to be paid during the month of the first registration of the car or the month before. If the car has been matriculated it is the date of matriculation which counts not the date of first registration in the country of origin. This latter date does apply though for your IPO test.

Can someone tell me which Lagoa building we need to go to in order to renew annual car tax please. I assume that all we need is the reg doc and ID?

Thx

To Lagoa, left at main island towards Portimao, turn first rt, approx. 100m turn left, 50m to end rd (main GNR opposite) turn rt, to island turn left and follow road round to left. Take next rt turn or park anywhere there. The financas is 30m down on left. Take a ticket and then go to the left side and at the end on the left to a counter. Ask if you get stuck they all speak English.

................ and be ready for a large increase this year. The tax for my 2002 1.3 Mitsubishi last year was € 36 but for my 2010 1.3 Honda hybrid this year was € 130

Roy the car tax has not been raised very much its the fact you have a newer car and they carry higher rates of Road Tax .

Exactly - Take a ticket from the machine on the right hand side as you go in - from memory I think it is E for Pagamento and then go round to the left hand side as you go in to wait your turn and pay your monies.
