This from the english version of Regiao Sul...mind you it has taken two years for them to print our health cards..and when we went to collect our residencia cards we were told to come back the following week...the printer needed a new ink cartridge.

ah well, no doubt... things can only get better....mmm..thats a catchy phrase...I wonder if anyone could put it to music..

anyway read on comrades

Citizen Card to be introduced in 2006

The Minister of State and Home Affairs, António Costa, announced yesterday, 29th October, that by the end of 2006 the Citizen Card will begin to be issued, substituting the Identity Card and the Tax Contribution Number, Social Security, Health and Electoral cards. This new innovation will work using an electronic and digital system.

According to the minister, the trial system for the new card concept will be ready in February. The Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda - the official printing house, will be taking on the responsibility for the testing of the new system, making sure that it will be reliable.

The minister also revealed that a study, involving the SIBS - Inter-banking syndicate and the banking association, is being carried out in order to determine if the new «Cartão do Cidadão» - (Citizen Card) can use the same system as the new bank card that is about to be launched.

Also revealed was that, as from Monday, although only in Lisbon, the "Certificado de Matricula" - (Registration Certificate) will be launched, which will replace the existing vehicle documents - «Livrete» and «Título de Registo de Propriedade» . These changes will be extended to the whole country as from January.

Thank Martin,

But what does this mean? Are we expected to take a senha at the Loja do Cidadao and get the new paperwork now? Or do we wait till we buy a new car?

I sincerely hope not Digger. :o

By the way we aren't lucky enough to have a Loja da Cidadão down here. I had a look on the net and they only seem to have them in Lisboa and "up north". :?
