Walk CVO to Ferragudo

Post by PTBUXTON »

I am planning to walk Cvo to Ferragudo next month is it possible to do this walk entirely via the cliff top footpath,it has been 5/6 years since I have ventured on this walk. Has there been an improvement in the sign posting and condition of the path?

There was an article in TPN about an upgraded recognised walk from CVO to Ferragudo. Someone put on another social media site that they walked it in 3 hours, I think. At the car park down from the Casabela Hotel Praia Molde??? there was an information board explaining the route.

You can pick the Camino route up just above the Quinta do Paraiso beachin CV. The markers are a little bit hit and miss, but the route will bring you out at Pintadinha beach, from there you pick the walkway up past the Casabela hotel. You then drop onto Ferragudos Prai Grande beach. If the tide is out walk along the beach to Ferragudo harbour. If the tide is in climb up steps from Prai Grande and drop down hill and up other side to Ferragudo.

In principal, the answer is yes : it's well signposted with the odd seat and marked viewpoint.....I think the signage is good, after all, the sea & cliffs are on one side and the marked path takes you clear of the edge.

Having said that, part of the path at the CVO end was taped off a week ago due to dangerous cliffs, so it's no good starting at the Praia de Paraiso beach by Mar d'Fora restaurant ( think that's what Tommy T means when he says Quinta do Paraiso ) , but if you walk up to Monte Carvoeiro, turn left and go down the hill ( R de Vale Currais) , there's a small path at the bottom on the left that takes you along to the cliff edge.

Path will have loose scree, but it's a lovely walk....allow 3 hours to get to the square in Ferraguedo. The Toure de Lapa has been restored ...arguably over restored !

Walking back can be done in about half that time, taking the inland route, though it's not so scenic.

Might even see you back on one of the CVO Rambler walks!

Thanks everyone for the info, didn't make it in the end due to a visit to the doctor and dentist over an unwanted abscess.Anyway I plan to do the walk in April, but will check to see if the the walk is still taped off before setting off, the rua de vale currais is left near the roundabout? I think there is a newsagents/cafe there?

Yes, coming out of Mamma Mia cafe in Monte Carvoeiro, turn right & it's first on left.

I've been told that it's now re-opened.
