We've been watching the Ryanair news re their latest example of arrogant disregard for their customers with some concern:

We avoided using Ryanair for many years just because of their previous reputation for messing customers about and only recently braved booking with them again.

Having arriving in cvo by EasyJet last week we are due to return in a week's time by Ryanair - clearly a bad move as we understand that Ryanair are planning to cancel 'some' flights between Faro and Luton and Manchester but they are not telling people which ones are going to be cancelled until a day or so beforehand.

Anyone been affected by this as yet?

We flew back from Faro with Easyjet last Tuesday. There were four Ryanair flights on the departures board to various destinations and they were ALL cancelled. Some people obviously had not received advance notice of cancellations (which is easy to understand if it's your return flight) and they were standing around wondering what happens next.

Hoping it is not too early to breathe a sigh of relief........Ryanair have just posted a list of all the flights that will be cancelled over the next month on their website and, unless I haven't looked carefully enough, flights to and from Faro do not seem to be there - Phew! What a shame however for all the others whose plans have been messed up so badly.

Sounds as thought there is more to this than RA are letting on - e.g., the info that Norwegian Air has just recruited 140 Ryanair pilots?

Suffice to say that we won't brave another booking with Ryanair for a long time.

I flew with some one on Sunday that had their flight cancelled out of Gatwick.

We are going to Faro on Friday from East Midlands and we're very relieved to still have a flight both ways. We booked Ryanair with great reluctance this time after avoiding them but only did so because it suited to use this airport and times best as my wife needs assistance. We will do everything we can to avoid this awful company who treat its customers with total contempt. If lots of us do that maybe things might change.

Much relief here also. We are on the 15.50 from East Midlands to Faro on Friday. Got a new fridge/freezer being delivered on Saturday. Could be fun trying to rearrange/cancel delivery with Radio Popular from the UK.

We had our two flights confirmed for this coming Friday which was a relief, my wife and I have been using Ryanair for the past 3 years simply because of price. However about 6 weeks ago we discussed ditching them as their punctuality had gone downhill,along with their charging structure for just about everything meant that eventually you paid as much as going with other airlines.So Mr whoever your name is, you can stick your micky mouse airline where the sun does not shine.

Don't get it really - everyone seems to complain about RYR but still fly with them!!!! Simples, stop flying with them.

OK - so they have made a cock-up which they own up to and have (so far) not tried to avoid the statutory compensation regulations in the 2% of affected flights.

O'Leary may not be the nicest man in town but give him credit for running one of the few profitable airlines in the world and still, even after extras, one of the cheapest and most reliable.

We have been using Ryanair since their days of flying turboprops to Ireland, have had no problems (bearing in mind that, unlike many others,we read their terms of carriage) and, in particular since I now need special assistance, better than most of the other LCC's.

They only have to pay compensation if they cancel within 2 weeks of departure. If they give more notice their only obligation is to give a refund. In this situation any passenger able to rebook with another carrier is almost certainly going to have to pay more money for an alternative flight. If you can't rebook then you face having to cancel a trip and either face a loss or a long battle to get compensation from your travel insurance if you have any.

I have travelled with Ryanair and agree that if you read their T&Cs and follow their instruction they have been OK but what they are doing now stinks and I would not happily choose to travel with them in the future.

IIRC when they first started cancelling flights they did so with much less that two weeks notice but were subsequently pressured to publish a list of all proposed cancellations. Those with flights two weeks plus in the future now know their fate but may lose the right to compensation. Which is more valuable to those affected?

If you've had dealings with Irish Companies you'll realise they are a law unto themselves, they are extremely unethical and untrustworthy, maybe not all but a fair majority adopt the attitude of arrogance as shown by O'Leary.

That's a pretty sweeping statement, Pato. Take this question as it is intended, that is not as a provocation, but would you perhaps share your experiences that would lead you to make it?
