Local Authority Registration?

Hi all,
My Wife and I will be returning for a 4th straight year to Carvoeiro in July/August and we can't wait!
However we've had an email through our booking agent this year suggesting that we need to register our passport details with the Local Authority to comply with local legislation? Is this new? the previous 3 years this was not necessary?
Just after some guidance is all.
Cheers!

Yes you must forward passport information of one of the party. Same as staying at a hotel..
Hope this helps.

It's not new - the relevant law dates from 2007/8 - but it's only gaining traction as more villa owners begin complying with the new 'simplified' systems.
It's not your job to register the information (just to provide it when requested by the owner/manager). The information that should be reported (for all non-Portuguese paying guests) to SEF is:
Full names
Passport (or ID card) number & country of issue
Town/country of birth
Date of birth
Town/country of current residence
Dates of check-in and check-out at the accommodation
While it may be convenient for the owners/managers to request this information at the time of booking, it is not needed until the occupation of the property commences. Furthermore it's quite possible that a passport number or place of residence could change before occupation.

Excellent guys - thanks for your help.
I was just intrigued as to why this was being enforced now is all, but you've answered that.
Thanks again.
