' 5 euros an hour and shes worth it'!
Excuse my language but I d say shes is worth a bloody lot more!
If Im right in my reckoning thats £3-20 an hour sterling !
and to me disgraceful
whats happened to the so-called minimum wage across europe?
I know its aound £4-20 hour in UK.
Sorry ..but I get woked up and upset about this.....
Its work Ive had to do in the past and its bloody hardwork for p--s poor wages....
Its also work that my Mum had to do when she was left a young widow with little kids ....she was never paid what she was WORTH...
I have to voice my opinion on this subject as i feel so strongly abut it!
To my mind its exploiting women..and as much as I love Algarve/Portugal...its one of the things I hate about the place :x
I cant say more ......too upset

Ellie - I hate to tell you this but the minimum wage across Europe is different in each country (to reflect the cost of living I suppose) and it is about 3 Euros per hour in Portugal.

That is sadly why an awful lot of British manufacturing is struggling to compete against cheaper European products.

So much for the 'level playing field'

Graham I know youre right...and more informed than me.......but it
reminds me of a 'slave market'.......and I weep  ...
when we lived out in Algarve.....it sickened me to hear how some spoke of the Portuguese..how 'patronising' they were...
one quote from a lady.(last vestiges of the Raj ? or are they still out there?)
" Give them a few escudos and they'll do all your washing & ironing for you"!
God..this has made me real fedup and despairing today  ...............

Ellie, you might like to know that all wages here are substantially lower than in the UK - even for office work, it's not just the menial jobs or Portuguese who earn these sorts of hourly rates.
