dvd rental shops

Hi all! I am a first time visitor to Carvoeiro. We are visiting in July. Normally we buy DVD films and bring them with us. but... is there a rental facility in Carvoeiro? And please, we don't want to look to stupid. How do we pornounce the name, Carvoeiro?

Unless you can tie your tongue into a bowline, you are going to pronouce it badly. I make do with carv where oh and the locals seem to know where I mean.

Hi, I dont know of one in Carvoeiro, but there is one in Lagoa which is about 10mins away by car, called Videomatic (hollywood video Clube).
If you are coming from the Fatacil, go across 125 toward lagoa, go straight over small roundabout and its about the 2nd or 3rd shop on your left. If you reach Helydoce cafe then you've gone too far (but its probably worth stopping there for a coffee and cake as their selection is great!)
It has limited opening hours but if you go in and sign up you can use the dvd hole in the wall dispenser outside to hire or return dvd's or top up your account. It may come in useful for each visit.

Many thanks for the information, John 1. And I appreciate the recommendation for a good coffee and cake shop. It has taken us a lot of time to find a local cake shop! I only need to sus out a good bakery ( My partner needs his fresh local bread rolls), a good local "tapas" bar - i.e. where the food is the same as the locals eat and really Portuguese not tourista! And unfortunately for me, a source of cigarettes. We are going self catering so all recommedations for food, drink are well appreciated! Hope you delay in returning to the Algarve is not too prolonged!

The bakery on 0, farol ( restaurant hill ) between bar talvez and Bradys is much improved under new ownership. bakes on the premises with very good cakes, including muffins and scones.
" tapas " is not really Portuguese ,there are a number of small places that cater for the local lunchtime trade with very good dishes of the day.

Hi scotbelle

With regards to a good cake/coffee shop, you may by now have already seen previous comments about a patisserie in Carvoeiro. Last year I used Pastelaria Fabrica Velha on Rue Pescadores, on the right-hand side as you enter Carvoeiro, to have a birthday cake made for my granddaughter, which we were very pleased with. I am sure that you would also get a decent cup of coffee there as well, and perhaps fresh baked bread. Hope this helps.
