Rumour has it that The Irish Times is closing down? If so who's next?

I drove thought the village at around 9.00pm on Saturday and saw 5 people. With all the O Patio places in The Square shut up - the place looks forlorn. Is this a real sign of the times :(

Heard the same rumours, believe the 5 year lease has run out. Doubt if Graham will want to renew it with the current economic climate.

However do remember it is not unusual for bars and restaurants to close for 2 to 3 months each year, the way things are now more seem to have chosen the pre Xmas period as we know from past years that there are less visitors here in that period, as they are all waiting to spend what money they have for Christmas. The real picture will not be clear until February or March when we would hope to have visitors trying to escape more northerly climates, we look forward to a sunny February to give us all a boost.

I believe Graham is shutting the top bar for a while, perhaps until Easter, but keeping the cellar bar open in the evening

Yep latest is that Aaron's keeping Safari going through the winter.

I realise they are in the same building but is the Irish Times and the Safari bar the same business?

Presumably he has renewed the lease - unless the top and bottom are separate leases.

I have never believed the location to be perfect and I suspect the arrival of the 'new' Rascals will not have helped his trading figures. Given the winter closure of the O Patio businesses - that part of the village is looking very 'empty'. I know Sullys, The Tapas Bar and Onze have their lights on - but, is there anybody home?

Not wanting to wish our lives away - roll on March :)

nothing to do with the lease, he is just taking 3 months out whilst it is the quiet season, plans to travel whilst closed, shame for the staff as it's an awful time to try and find jobs to carry them through until it re-opens

Due to return in October for golf for 10th year running and Irish Times plays integral part of trip.......does anyone know for sure if its for sale, still open....I heard from a group of friends who were there in April that there was no draught beer on sale...not a good sign. Any update appreciated.

Walked past Irish Times the other day, several people sitting outside at tables. Saw the barman stop of at Hemingway's before his shift. Happy to carry out some 'market research' for you on my next trip into town!! Watch this space.
