clipper ship and ferragudo
clipper ship and ferragudo
Saw an amazing 5 masted ship come past this morning heading for portimao. Went to see it later after it had tied up and it was the Royal Clipper which has to be the ultimate in luxury.
Anyway, we headed back through Ferragudo and found large areas flooded and the sea only several inches below the harbour walls. Have never seen the tide so high but perhaps the current gale force winds are contributing to the tide. Anyone seen the sea this high before?

Re: clipper ship and ferragudo
We have seen the Star clippers a few times, this time last year we saw her under full sail heading out to sea having been in Portimao. The crew is Russian and it they are the largest passengers ships under sail in the world.
We have also seen the much smaller windstar ships also in Portimao.
Lokking forward to the seas calming down as the fishing will be much improved.

We also saw the 5 mast sailing ship, and as we stood admiring it, a 3 mast sailing ship came sailing up the estuary! Having seen the Tall Ships at Greenock several years ago, these sights brought back memories.
Weather? Seas? Been going to Ferragudo for several years and haven't seen sea as high for a while! Glad we're staying well inland and up on a hill.

We staying at ADM and the rain is hitting the balcony window horizontally! The tide is as high as we have seen it in 10 years. Rain and wind very bad but would still rather be here. Hoping weather taking up soon.

The square at Ferragudo is prone to flooding. If you look at properties around it you will see they have flood gates to their front doors.
We were there once when it flooded on a high spring tide and life just went on as normal. The cafes and bars in the square stayed open with customers still sat at outside tables with the water lapping around their feet - the waiters just rolled up their trousers and laughed it all off.
