Centianes Beach temporarily closed

Following a very high tide blown in on strong sou-westerly winds, 2 metres more sand has been washed away from Centiannes Beach, leaving a 6 ft drop from the bottom of the steps, straight onto exposed rocks.

The GNR was down here at midday, and following consultations, the owner of O Stop Restaurant has roped off the top of the steps leading from the decking walkway, beyond the restaurant, down onto the beach.

There has been alot of movement of sand off, and onto this beach this winter.....so we are hopeful that what the sea has taken, it will give back before the Easter weekend.

To any of you that live here, and know Centianes beach, come down and have alook!!

Not unusual at Easter, one year people on the beach had to be airlifted off. (Centianes Beach.)

Just been down again.......it looks as if even more sand has gone. Looks impassable to anybody not capable of scrambling over rocks!

The power of the wind and sea is truly AWESOME!!!

In a period of 24 hours, the sea has deposited 1000's of cubic metres of sand back on this beach, returning sand where there was none...and building the overall level back up by 3 or 4 metres.

The beach is open again, just in time for Easter.

If I hadn't have seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it possible!!!

We have not been down to the Boteco cove , our pool man said that it was too dangerous to go fishing from my usual spot due to the waves.
I would not be surprised to see that the beach has returned there as well. However the access walkway has probably been washed away !!

I took a vid of the tide at Paraiso (boteco) Ive never seen anything like it and you wouldnt want to be fishin down there, there is no beach and although it was a spring tide it was f*****g dangerous. same tide was about an inch off covering the road on the new bridge into portimao, lapping over the sides.....

we tried fishin at 6 in the morning last weds at Algar Seco it was unfishable, silted water and a 30ft swell....will leave it now until June and hit the Mackeral hard

Wow! Having been on the beach a couple of times, that would have been something to see. I don't suppose anyone took any photos?

Just to help you, the beach you're referring is "paraĆso" beach, or "paradise beach", in english... :-)
