Thats it pretty much confirmed, coming over to portugal for 2 weeks in september, probably the first two weeks. Cant wait for a wee break! Just need to book my flights when i come back from spain in may! Still got to find somewhere to stay, been having a look around and contacted a few people about apartments and villas but no replies yet!!

We cant decide between carvoeiro or praia da rocha, we've been there for a daytrip but can anybody tell me what its like to stay there on holiday? I think we'd probably prefer carvoeiro

Yeah i really liked the beach! We were only there a few hours so didnt get to see very much else. Hopefully we can find somewhere to stay in carvoeiro, can anyone recommend somewhere? We would consider a hotel aswell. Cant wait to come out for some sun and a glass of sangria!!

it pretty much depends on what you want to do at night time Stacey, Rocha has loads of late night bars and clubs as you know, Carvoeiro has some live music in the bars but doesn't really offer dancing and the like; you're coming at a good time, the crowds will have gone but it'll still be busy enough to enjoy it all

When we came in late septmeber to carvoeiro it was perfect, brilliant weather but not too warm for us and it was busy enough. We are a young couple but suprisingly its my bf's mother in law that wants to go to pria da rocha, maybe she fancies going to the discos

I'm sure people that are renting villas out there can!!!
You know Praia de Rocha......the Algarves answer to Benidorm.
Carvoeiro is a different, better, world.

You going for a week or two weeks? Two weeks in CVO will soon get boring; even a week is enough there! All it is, is three roads full of shops and bars. That is fine but that novelty soon wears off. The fact that boyfriend's mum is a bit incapacitated means walking up that main steep road is going to be havoc for the poor woman..
If you just want to rest and relax by the poor villa then that is fine. Otherwise book a villa at Lagos! There's loads opposite the main beach and loads of activities in the area. You'll never get bored in Lagos.
If you are not hiring a car then being in CVO is gonna make you feel a bit trapped!
If you stay in CVO book a car with Steen's company. Getting a Taxi to CVO is relatively cheap and let the taxi driver take the strain of driving on that A22 or if need be, that lethal N125.
Anyway, if b/f takes his mum on holiday too the he is a decent human being. You have a good catch there.

Lagos is a good alternative as it has a mainly level centre and riverfront does not have much of the worst you will find in the other large resorts and a fantastic beach a Meia Praia
Before booking just check on the location of your accom, anywhere close to the Marina would be fine if you want to stay close to the city or otherwise close to the beach.
Accepting the comments about CVO hills, we have had many people stay with us for 2 week holidays and they have never been bored , but I agree hiring a car even for a few days of your holiday will enable you to get more out of your Algarve holiday

If you don't have a car you can easily take the bus which goes via Lagoa to Portimao and is as cheap as chips. There's a fair bit to do in Portimao and there will be a bus to Praia da Rocha. There are a lot of coach excursions from the bus depot in Portimao or (tide permitting) a boat trip to Silves.

I'm sorry James, but sometimes you really do appear to talk a lot of bollocks at times!
I am yet to meet anybody who considers 2 weeks in Carvoeiro boring. unless it is somebody who wants all night clubbing....in which case you'd head for the more lively resorts of Spain, Cyprus or Greece.
Yes, Carvoeiro is smaller than Lagos....and Lagos has the marina...but having said that you've said most of it.
There is at least as much walking up hills in Lagos as here in Carvoeiro, though the main square in Lagos is on the flat. The nearest beach is further away, and not as nice as our town beach, and the other beaches, though as nice as Centiannes, carvallo, or Marinihas, are still a car drive away, and harder for somebody who is disabled to access, unless you drive to Alvor.
Stacey's instincts for Carvoeiro are good.....Lagos, like so many other places is great to visit, but Carvoeiro is a far better base.
We look forward to welcoming the 3 of you Stacey.
