Times depend on the tide. Can't remember the pricing but it wasn't horrendous. I didn't know they went from Ferragudo, there are a few sail out of Portimao.

You can also go on a solar powered boat from Alvor. I think its an all day trip including lunch with a couple of hours in Silves. We intend to go on a sailing trip to some remote beaches in Sept from Alvor which includes booze and food so should end up quite messy by the end of the day

Look forward to it

The only boat trip I knew of from Ferragudo to Silves is if you arrange it with the ferry from S'oeste restaurant (last one on the quay).
The ferry usually plies from the quay by the restaurant over to Portimao or the Marina but the guy told me that he will do special trips up river by arrangement.

Sounds great, must try and remember to list all these things to do, but memory like a sieve.
Perhaps the powes that be could do a list of ' trips, days out, etc for us to look up on another thread, maybe on FAQS.

Have done that trip three times when friends have been over and they were bored with the Beaches. We went with Peter from Portimao waterfront. small boat, very friendly, with drinks and nibbles. I think it cost about €8 per head and sails when the tide permits. Well worth it and plenty of time to look around Silves and have a spot of lunch.

Whilst we're on the subject - how would you pronounce Silves to your friendly boatmen?

Don't pronounce the "e" so it's Silvs

The trip goes twice daily from the main quay at Portimao. Just up river from where the sea trips go. I seem to remember it cost about 12-15 euros each return with a 2 hour stay in Silves.....(we were told the correct pronunciation is sil-vesh)
They give you drinks on board....but its warm soft drinks and rough wine. Nice views on the way up, I only went so I could get some nice shots of the N125 bridge)
Silves is worth the visit, and also has some nice restaurants if you have the time....worth re-visiting by car.

Totally agree, Silves, however its pronounced, is beautiful, and has a lot to offer. If more people went perhaps that arena thingy, would have more opportunity to put on more entertainment and be less shabby and run down. Someone said they thought it had gone bancrupt. Such a shame, as the idea and location is fab.
There is far more to the once capital, than the castle, restuarants etc.

Would you have a phone number for "Peter", please. When we are over in the Winter months, we are never sure if and when those boats go. Thanks.

Bruces pronunciation is correct if you are from Lisbon (the kings Portuguese) but in the Algarve accent it is Silvs similar to how we say "silks"
