The current activity in the square is the demolition of the ruin between O Patio and the Tourist Office. This means that parking in the square has been restricted. They were digging up a few cobbles today, but I think that maybe so they can fence off the new construction. An article in todays "Resident" said that the changes to Carvoeiro would start early next year. :(

Could someone tell me what it is that is in the centre of the square. Looking at it from the webcam it is just behind the Xmas tree to the right.

Sanreen, I think it's a crib, go to camera 3 on this link and whilst you can only see the back of it, it looks like one to me. http://progarve.gotdns.com/cam/

Yes it could be a crib looking at it from that camera. Thanks Mike.

Thanks for the link to the 'progarve' webcams Mike. What with the 'Palacio do Cone' and 'Webcams Galore' we've now got the square covered from all angles. The live streaming 'progarve' ones are great!

Cheers Tom, just wish the other beach and town centre ones streamed as well, they say they do but it's painful!

Yes! The work seems to have started, as of this morning, with the square filled with trucks, excavators, and men in groups.... talking.
Very little room left for traffic, so will be interesting to see how things work out.

Just been looking on the camera for the area and lots of work happening. Trucks. diggers anda bloody great dredged hole long the middle of the square from the round thingy towards the beach wall. Obviously the cafe frontages have not got there chairs and tables out. I wonder how long no cafe society in progress out in the square before they loose money. How long work to take etc etc  :o

I wonder if the cafes around the square will be luckier than those in Albufeira when their square became a building site a couple of years ago. Talking to locals I was told that no compensation was paid to the businesses around the square for lost income during the works.

Does anyone know the purpose of the "work" or what the are trying to achieve?

As I understand it they are intending to 'pedestrianise' the area around the square and remove the car parking spaces. They appear to have placed a metal container behind the cars parked there and cordoned off everything inside it.

Biffa is usually the person in the know????

according to the sign on the new cafe / restaurant where the old ruin used to be it is not due for completion until Dec 2009 .
The Boat cafe opposite is taking the opportunity to refurb whilst mess is going on
suspect disruption to cafe chairs wont be too long as its the same guy who is developing the new cafe and he wont want to upset business at O Patio
