East side vs. west side

As it is a beautiful Saturday morning and I am extremely bored in the office (I don't know how I let the boss talk me into these things

), I was beginning to wonder (based on Biffa's location tag: Carvoeiro - east side!), which side of Carvoeiro
you think is best and why.
I am all for east side because:
1. Best italian restaurant in town, in fact, almost
all italian restaurants in town, which says it all, really.
2. Praia do Carvalho and Vale de Centeanes beach
3. we have the light house, so nah!

I'm confused, I know it doesn't take a lot, but what do you consider east and what is west?

If you cut Carvoeiro in half down the middle then from restaurant hill up and beyond (east?) is the best side for me. Has the nicest beaches and the lighthouse as G said. And the best restaurants.

Hi Lesley
I'm from the 'other side' I suppose, but would love to know your recommendations for restaurants on 'your side'

East has it for me. All the best beaches. Not as formally developed as Monte Carvoeiro et al, and we have a house on the cliffs above Centiannes Beach with sea views on 2 sides.
I dont know about the Mona Lisa.....found it a bit "patchy", but we do have Chicken George!

In favour of the West side:
- It does NOT have Restaurant Hill (tacky and touristy), but does have Monte Carvoeiro Square, which aint much, but its not too tacky.
- I think we're even on the beaches, with Caneiros in the West vs Carvalho in the East, but since they're both a chunk out of town, they don't really count do they ?
- Restaurants on the West win with Rei Das Praias cos who needs to go to Portugal (as a visitor) and eat Italian, but if you're not eating Portuguese, give me L'Orange in the West over Italian any day
- And finally, from the West, we can walk DOWN to Rascals

(And in case anybody jumps in with the walk home, remember you have to walk UP hill on
both sides of town !)

Have to agree Richard. But lets not forget the restaurant at Vila Nova
and the Italian at QDP aint bad either, and as you said we are nearer to the best beach (in my opinion) in the Algarve, Canieros
Anyone else think that the lifeguard in the red shorts looks like George Michael in his Wham days (he is forever called George in our family)

Hi Tricky, our favourites are Brasserie Marina at the top of the road that goes down toward Benagil, fantastic meals if a little expensive, Casa do bife in carvoeiro and Maximes are our two real favourites in Carvoeiro, Hera in Almancil is great, it is on the 'fisherman's beach' a real find. Also Brasserie Rosal at Vale d'el Rei is very, very good, live music on Friday evenings with good food. Also as you go towards Benagil from that side there is Casa Velha do Pescador which does the nicest seafood. as well as the restaurant at the top of that hill (can't remember the name) that does the best plaice and chips in the area.

But the other side is better for enjoying the old sundowner on the balcony.

thanks! some of live on that road and quite like it!
Perhaps it is a little touristy at the bottom of the hill, but the top part is really quite pleasant.

Restaurant hill is not 'tacky' touristy maybe but as we use it mainly out of season it really doesn't matter to us, also as our house is near Benagil it is further out of Carvoeiro on that side that we like.

This is all mischevious.......its all Carvoeriro. We all live there, or have homes there, because we love the place......and any way...not everybody is fortunate enough to live on the east side
