how many visits?

Post by Jose A »

It would be interesting to hear how many times you guys have visited cvo over the years and how often per year, i myself have been 7 times and once visited twice in one year. Its amazing to see how the place has changed in the five years i have been a visitor

OH comes over once a month for about 4 days each time. I come over maybe 3 weeks in August, 1 week Christmas and about 8 weekends throughout the year.

:D I have stayed at Rocha Brava complex at least 15 times over the last 20+ years and of course Carvoeiro has changed in some ways - but at least it still has the same feel to the place. Hence the reason we are spending 3 holidays there this year!! There were only 3 bars in the village in the mid 80's if i remember correctly! and most of Rocha Brava was a building site! Watching those magnificent villa's there taking shape from being just a building plot.

I remember where the row of trees were on restaurant hill which is now a block of shops - much prefer the trees!! up the road from Carvoeiro Sol Hotel.

20th of April cannot come quick enough for our next visit to the place that feels like our second home.

Me too. It's a beautiful place, full of easy-going charm and character(s). I love Rocha Brava. Last year the authorities improved the walkways & paths to Centianes beach - and they have done it with rustic wooden poles & gravel - very sensitive & thoughtful to the dramatic, rugged, natural coastline.

What does change of course are the seasons, and the mood of the Atlantic. And that's part of the grace, magic and hush of this special place. 8)

What lovely words Zoinks :)
I find the Atlantic ocean fascinating to watch especially from the clifftops near Rocha Brava lighthouse!

After a few years of living in the area and countless holidays/visits, I think Carvoeiro still retains its 'fishing village' characture..

The Atlantic is certainly great to watch around the area where we stay at Rocha Brava. The apartment looks out onto the ocean and i just could not believe how rough it was one day in November last year - have never seen the sea so angry before - sounded like thunder crashing into the cliffs.

How many visits? Well, I have been visiting CVO for about seven years now, and up until last year had been there about 6~7 times, however, I return next week and that will be 3 times this year. I have been in CVO in December, January, February and, when I get there, March. Not bad going eh?

Five times in the last six years and it will be six times in seven years in September. The missing year we spent in Albuferia but still managed to make it to Carvoeiro so I'm going to claim that year as well.

We first visited Portugal in 1988, and loved it so much we came back every alternate year, but we tended to rent over in Vale de Parra near Albufeira. We nevertheless visited Carvoeiro from time to time, and in 2002 we were spending the final day of our holiday walking on the cliffs at Algar Seco when my wife twisted her ankle rather badly. That put paid to the walk so we decided to drive around the area.

We came across Rocha Brava, where my wife was delighted to find there was an on-site sales office. To cut a long story short, we now have an apartment on Rocha Brava, which we visit twice a year for 2-3 weeks at a time. It is our ambition to visit it just once a year, but for several months at a time.

When we drive from the airport, and get our first view of the lighthouse as we drive down past Golfemar, it really is like coming home!

I know what you mean Mike, I feel like I'm coming home when I make the turning at Lagoa for Carvoeiro. It really is a good feeling. I can't wait, just 7 more days to go. I'll have a nice stroll to the beach and look out at the ocean, then pop into Columbos for a cool drink. Yes!!

We'll be flying out next Friday, but only for a few days this time. We'll be back again in June for three weeks to celebrate Mrs B's **th birthday (her bus pass should be waiting for her when she gets back!!)

:D We feel exactly the same when we first see the light house near Rocha Brava. I am getting excited about our April holiday there - have not visited Carvoeiro in that month before, then we are out there again in August then December for Xmas.
