Thanks for the comments everyone. When we came in september 2009 we stayed at casa jorge pedro near benagil which we found too far out for us so we're wanting something nearer town. We hired a car last time and will again this year as my bf cant stand staying in the same place! even tho he moans he has to do all the driving on holiday  We enjoyed having the car and went daytrips to pria da rocha, silves and monchique, very nice! I can understand what james means but even tho we are a young couple we arent really the party type, we'll probably go out for a drink some nights but nothing wild!! last time we went to the bote but we'd went to early and it was empty so we just went home lol. Just looking for a nice cocktail or sangria in the sun! loved having a cocktail at the havana bar. If we did decide to go for a proper night out how much would it cost for a taxi to pria da rocha or somewhere else like that? We'll try to find somewhere suitable for my bf's mum but if i see somewhere nice that is on a bit of a hill then she'll just have to put up with it, shes not disabled or anything just a bit unfit!

This is a random question but is the Oasis restauarant still open and if so do they still do the flaming sausage starter?? my bf has this on his last night and i think it was his best part of the holiday lol its all hes went on about when we decided we were coming back.

I am yet to meet anybody who considers 2 weeks in Carvoeiro boring. unless it is somebody who wants all night clubbing....in which case you'd head for the more lively resorts of Spain, Cyprus or Greece.

Yes, Carvoeiro is smaller than Lagos....and Lagos has the marina...but having said that you've said most of it.

There is at least as much walking up hills in Lagos as here in Carvoeiro, though the main square in Lagos is on the flat. The nearest beach is further away, and not as nice as our town beach, and the other beaches, though as nice as Centiannes, carvallo, or Marinihas, are still a car drive away, and harder for somebody who is disabled to access, unless you drive to Alvor.

Stacey's instincts for Carvoeiro are good.....Lagos, like so many other places is great to visit, but Carvoeiro is a far better base.

We look forward to welcoming the 3 of you Stacey.
Hey hey hey!

I take no lectures from you! When others on this forum come on and don't give give a rosy view of CVO poor darlings like you get upset and get heavy!

If you don't like the less-than-rosy view then TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH! If you're marooned out there bored stiff with a cliche of adoring luvvies well that is your problem! You want a reality check!

Take you abusive somewhere else; you won't bully me! I like to see you try! ;) You might be abusive to Holiday1 in that posting about restaurants ore making abusive ageist comments all the time! These things get noticed you know!

"We look forward welcoming the 3 of you Stacey!" There you go again with your delusions of grandeur! Do I laugh with or at you

I recommend Carvoeiro and staying?anywhere, the nearest to the center the best, as there are no parking places. There is carvoeiro Sol...it's right in the center, near the beach and everything.

Yeah that was another thing i meant to add, we found it very hard to park when we drove to carvoeiro for the day, do apartments come with a parking space?

Well scottishstacey - you seem to have set the cat amongst the pigeons here!!

I think Carvoeiro has everything you are looking for. I have been coming for a number of years and there really is something for everyone - apart from those looking for the clubbing scene. There are plenty of bars to enjoy pre and post dinner drinks - we all have our favourites! Hemmingways seemed to cause quite a stir on another thread!

lol mrs b i feel a bit bad now! :D we really liked carvoeiro when we visited from benagil, i hated being that far out from town, we had a car but it was a pain having to phone a taxi if you wanted to stay out late, we only did it once. Looking foward to being able to stroll into town. Going to look properly for somewhere to stay after i come back from spain in may

Come on boys, play nicely!

This forum should be where we share our common thoughts on Carvoeiro - possibly diverse in our opinion, but nonetheless linked together for our love of (in my opinion), this beautiful and fantastic town. Let's not put people off!

To respond to an earlier comment - Oasis is still open. As I understand from the forum it has been taken over from the fab Frank and Cristina from Lanterna - I am sure they are doing a great job.

stacey: slightly further uphilll than monte dourado is colina verde. all the 'established' apts are for rent during the summer including some town houses. some appear to be very popular. you will find them at http://www.holidayrentals.com and just key in destination colina verde. lovely pool. nice quiet environment. *149 steps down to the 'out' street and return by monte durado hill, (no, I would not recommend the steps on the way back, way too much hard work). you can go 'over' the hill and down past the market to get to all the restaurants and bars on restaurant hill. there's also a few restaurants and bars up on monte carvoeiro but maybe a bit of a trek for relatives.
we only 'discovered' cvo two years ago and loved it.(there are other apts on that site which might be more suitable ie not on hills.)

both protagonists on this site are in their own way correct. yes, a person might get bored in two weeks in cvo, equally you could happily spend much longer and never get fed up. my daughter was out last year for a week. honestly thought she might not go back this year but has now booked return flights for two weeks.

lagos is lovely, probably our favourite resort overall in the algarve, its only 20 mins up the road in a car so you don't necessarily have to stay there. luz is a nice little resort on the 'far' side but have to confess do quite like dona anna beach in lagos itself. packed in summer though (just like cvo beach).

alvor is well worth a visit , few hours strolling round the streets/little paved area around the harbour, lunch in one of the many restauraurants and down to the magnificent beach for the afternoon . snooze off the lunch and beer and an hour or so in the sea aftewards. bliss!
alburfeira (despite what others say) is well worth a visit, personally prefer to head off around 5pm and enjoy the atmosphere in the old town.
you have been to silves but how about monchique and the mountains?
one of our friends in cvo parks the car at marinho beach and walks over the clifftop to benagil and says its really nice. never done it so can't say.
and there's the waterparks, one in lagoa is only up the road but we haven't been to it yet, but can recommend zoo marine. really enjoyable day out.

in between touring around and visiting other places you have to relax and just enjoy the sun. Carvoeiro is made for relaxing.

* I counted them. twice.
