Actually Pingo Doce is very good, they have started a slightly bigger selection and the fruit and veg always look fresh. Gary and I will be visiting Modelo as usual for the big shop, two weeks and counting now...

Agree with Misty on the price comparison between UK and PT. We spend about 6 months of the year in Carvoeiro, but never in the peak holiday season. Earlier this year we booked all food and drink to my PT debit card for 6 weeks, and checked against what we spend in UK. It was less than half.
