Mosquitoes
Hello we are in CVO in just over 2wks time, can anyone tell me the situation with the mossies at the moment, are they hungry in the evenings or on a diet??
Re: Mosquitoes
They're ravenous at the moment, both day and night. We arrived Saturday and my wife already has over 20 bites,
and that's using mosquito spray and wipes, nothing stops them!!
The bonus is they leave me alone and head straight for her.

Re: Mosquitoes
Like your wife I seem to be a mosquito buffet
in my bedroom i have two electronic gadgets, a blue light which electrocutes them one tin of spray for atmosphere and one tin to spray on myself yet still they feast!! If this carries on it be harder for a mosquito to get a seat at my body than it is for anyone to book at seat at happys ha ha

Hi all,
Very strange. The last 2 years we've been to Carvoeiro and never been bitten. I assumed it was the fact that it was so close to the coast, but reading this it seems that people are having a hard time.
In your opinion guys has it always been a Mosquito buffet or is it just this year?

Re: Mosquitoes
OMG! - hope they've gone by Saturday. I was in Malta 3 weeks ago - suffered 72 bites in one night whilst the other 3 got none! Over 50 on my right leg!
Looks like I will have to cover myself in Deet for a fortnight!

Hi Guys,
Oh dear it sounds like we'll be fresh bodies for them to feast on then! I've heard that vitamin B1 or Garlic tablets are good for keeping them at bay, but sounds like they won't be beaten this summer!
Aah well I shan't let it ruin my holiday, sooo looking forward to being there, can't wait eekk!!

Re: Mosquitoes
72 is a lot of bites. They tend to leave me alone but my wife is usually a target. Good luck to those who are prone.
Re: Mosquitoes
Wife been using tropical strength deet with no success, last night after we returned from town she was sat on balcony wearing socks and wrapped in two towels and the little blighters were still after her.
Think it's the high temperatures and lack of wind, only light breezes at the moment.

Re: Mosquitoes
Avon Skin so Soft is a good repellent but even that doesn't work for everyone.

Re: Mosquitoes
I've heard people that swear by tumble dryer sheets. Rub a dryer sheet on arms and legs or put one in your shorts pocket and it apparently repels insects.
Apparently it really works but I haven't tried it and wouldn't be convinced until I seen it working. Anyone willing to try it out let me know if it works!!!

I tend to just drinks gallons of gin & tonic. Mossies don't like quinine that is found in tonic water. The gin is just to add taste

Good excuse Lamby!
Re: Mosquitoes
I agree! We dont usually get bitten but this year its a nightmare, although they are choosy its lower leg!!
I usually use the G&T method topped up with plenty of garlic with a little skin so soft in the evenings and dont have a problem.
However this year, they are ravenous!
