Pay and display

Post by Jaylay »

Looks as though Carvoeiro is not getting parking meters instead Pay and Display signs and Machines have appeared today.

Only noticed then on the lower part of the out road, signs wrapped up at the moment but seems to apply only to day time, which does make sense as stops people parking for the day and allows short term parking for bank, post office and shopping. It looks as though it does not apply after 8pm which means it will not affect the trade for the restaurants, when I see them unwrapped I will post more details

They are on the main street and car parks in Lagos for over 12 months and it seems to work well.
Locals and regular visitors know where to park for free even if a few minutes walk is required.

They have been working well for years in Portimao, and like Portimao I think parking tickets will be freely given for those who overstay the time paid for.

GNR booked/clamped two cars this morning that were wrongly parked in the bays outside the chemist shop on the out road opposite Hemingway's bar. Took a long time to examine the documents of one of the owners.

when in Lagos I always park in that car park near the bus office. handy and inexpensive, last time I think it was something like €1.50 for just over 3 hours, there are different rules for different times of the year, ie in summer you might have to pay up to midnight but in winter it's free after 7.30pm, also they have free days now and again. I have seen clamped cars in this car park.

The new pay and display parking zone will be from the junction up to Monte Dourado along Rua de Barranco for approximately 200 mts (Both sides of the road). No signage as yet as to where the P&D zone will finish, but suggestions are that it will be just past Taste restaurant. There are also murmurings that Estrada do Farol will also become a Pay & Display zone later in the year, although the Junta de Freguesia would not comment.

Tariffs

Up to 15 mins – 20 cents
30 minutes – 40 cents
1 Hour – 80 cents
2 Hours – €1.60
3 Hours – €2.40
Maximum rate – €3.20 (unable to ascertain if this means 4Hrs max parking)

Charges will apply from Mondays until Saturdays between 8am and 8pm.
Parking will be free on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

on the same but different, tourist clamped in Centiennes on Tuesday. He was in one of those two bays for emergency vehicles. Apparently did not notice the sign, checked for wheelchair signs (these are nearby) didn't see any and parked. €300 to remove the clamp. He was wrong but €300 seems very rought justice to me, it's not as though emergency vehicles could not park in that 'tournaround' area in an emergency.

Went down to the Post Office this afternoon and instead of walking back from near the edge of the out road or risk illegal parking in the unlaoding bay near the PO I was able to park by the Junta de Fregesia, put 20 cents in the machine and walk to get my post. Plenty of parking spots in the paying area. Now if the GNR would only do something to police the two parking spots by the Chemist so that they were available for people wanting to actually go to the Chemist instead of being blocked for long periods when there is no one in the Chemists...........................................

Realise may not be same chemist but did see GNR clamp cars on 'out' road chemist opposite Hemingways (see my earlier posting). If you going to PO then assume you referring to spaces at chemist on 'in' road near to Irish Times?
Anyway, on different matter, just home after 3 weeks near CVO and have had to put heating on! :(

The pay and display finishes just past Bistro 72.
The town was very quiet this weekend and we found no difficulty in finding a parking place anywhere.
