Daves wanting to know wheres the best place to go golfing? hes bringing his golf clubs over so he wants to go a couple of times a week. He knows about the vale de milhno course, did i get the name right!? Any other suggestions of courses would be great. Also do they do any weekly passes or tourist offers?

There are plenty of courses and choice depends on whther you have transport, how much you want to pay?

Gramacho and Pinta (recomended) are local and you can get a taxi. Vale de Milho is a 9 Hole Par 3 course.

With own transport I would recommend Pinhal and Millennium in Villamoura.

Would avoid Salgados and Alto Golf like the plague.

Make sure to take a handicap certificate as most course's require them, however don't always ask for them!

HE does not need to go all the way to Villamoura, there are the two Carvoeiro courses, Gramacho and Pinta, Silves, Morgado ( 2 courses ) all obviously much closer,
He should still get the summer prices in September.
Although we have them we have never been asked for handicap certs nor do we know of anyone who has.

Im not sure if hes even got a handicap, he used to be good but nowadays he doesnt get to play much as hes constantly working plus the weathers usually always rubbish at the weekends lol typical scottish weather!! Hes definitely going to go to the 9hole course but i'll suggest the others to him. do they have a website so i can check prices for him? We will have a hire car so transport isnt a issue. if you were to go to the same course a few times a week would they be able to give you some sort of week pass deal or would you just pay the normal price each time? its fine if thats the case. just trying to get some more info for him.

The last reply had a link in it that gives guidance on prices and all the Algare courses.

Emm is right you don't have to go all the way to Villamoura but it does have some of the best courses for more serious golfers. I have been coming over for the last 10 years and would always play the three I suggested.

I would not take a chance on not having a certificate as on our first visit two golfers in our party were refused access despite being 15 & 18 handicaps - with no refund.

Send me a PM if you want some guidance around handicap certificates if Dave does not have a current one.

The 9 hole usually has some offers, at one time advertised on the noticeboard at the corner outside Smilers / Taxi rank.

Played most of the courses close to CVO. Never been asked for my handicap cert - my club has online display of members details so the club could view if proof needed.

Val de Milho is basically a pitch & putt course and not worth it for serious golfers.

Pinta & Gramacho - both very nice and walkable as are the two courses at Morgado/Alamos.

As mentioned avoid Altos Golf - poor condition in my opinion.

Unlike another poster I quite like Salgados as it is different but a lot of water so take plenty of balls! Flat so no buggy needed.

Palmares is great and now has been upgraded I understand so is well worth it. Look forward to trying the new version.

Boa Vista is nice and easy walking and is one of my favourites decent practice facilities as well.

Silves is close too and well worth playing.

Parqe de Floresta out in the west is really hilly but fun - definitely need a buggy.

Oceanico have got specials inc club hire, buggy after 11am which are pretty good value.
I played the Oceanico Faldo last year just up the road at Ameraco de Pera which was superb in every way (again a buggy needed) and will tackle the O'Connor this time.in Sept.

There are others a little further - I am about to tackle the Vilamoura ones.

If you like a drive the Seve course (god bless him) on the Spanish border by the bridge has the best greens I have ever played on and the course is good too with an unusual 6 6 6 layout.

All my opinion of course and I do prefer a walk to a buggy but some courses the distance from green to the next tee mean you do need one.

Lots of deals to be had - the guy in the CVO golf shop will book for you and is pretty good on prices so go support him.

It is worth asking to see if Twighlight rates are available on Gramacho or Pinta.(Close by) or Boavista by Lagos..
Usually always manage 18 holes at that time of year for half the price..
All depends on how much you wish to pay..

Thanks guys, ill pass the info on to him especially about the handicap. He doesnt get to the golf much anymore and when he does its just a quick round of 9hole or just the driving range. He used to go all the time though and apparently was good. Just needs some practice!

Played Pinta a couple of weeks ago - no-one got asked for a handicap certificate. You just need to look the part - stick to the golf dress code, no sharing of clubs and turn up on time - the rest is just golf!

Yep i meant to post the other day to say thats the course hes going to, says hes going to book one of those passes, think its 7 days?? I'll get loads of peace to sunbathe lol. He said he might try one of the other courses too but ive warned him he might be asked for a handicap certificate.

He was away to the golf today for 4 hours, how boring lol

If you only want to play 9 holes the Penina Resort course is worth a visit. re handicap certificate, the only time I have been asked was when playing the Penina Championship course. Vale de Milho really only a very short course and not one I would recommend to a serious golfer.

daves not really a serious golfer, hes only just been getting back into it the last few months while its still light. think he'll be quite happy with the smaller course and maybe on one of the larger courses if he can get on without a handicap certificate. He was away with a friend tonight playing the championship course tonight at Kames golfclub, didnt get asked for a handicap certificate there.
