Faro arrivals
I've got a pick up from the airport in the morning, can anyone tell me if the temporary set up is still in place, with the arrivals coming out of the tent tunnel by the outside car hire offices?

Re: Rafaiol's Restaurant
It is a very common misconception that you can't cook at high temperatures with olive oil. It should not be heated beyong its smoke point & this varies according to the quality of the oil a very high quality extra virgin oil has a high smoke point. Goose fat is excellent for roasting potatoes, not s...

SMOKEHOUSE
Had a lovely lunch here this week. The setting is very pretty, the food was very good & the service charming & efficient. And no Bruce W I don't know if their roast potatoes are as good as Rascals, I don't even know if they do roast potatoes, all I know is that the smoked haddock, new potatoes & pea...

Re: Rafaiol's Restaurant
I have never had any problems roasting Portuguese potatoes & I use a number of different varieties, white & red. As long as they're par-boiled & the fat in the oven tray (I use olive oil) is really, really hot I've never had a failure, lovely & crispy on the outside, light & fluffy on the inside - p...

Re: Colina Sol apart-hotel.....Refurb???
I can remember when they built this monstrosity, we couldn't believe they were allowed to put such an eyesore in such a prime location, we more or less stopped using Centiannes beach after it was built. I can't imagine what they could do to make it look any better externally but I would imagine from...

Re: Police Presence
It's not a question of cost. We have transponders on 3 of our cars but it's no good having an "I'm alright Jack, sod the rest of you" attitude, the Algarve relies on tourism, this is were we choose to live we want Portugal to thrive not cripple itself. Tourists would love to "go with the flow", unfo...

Re: Birthday cake
If it's the pastelaria on the right in the first parade of shops as you enter the 'in' road there is a take away almost opposite, they do the usual piripiri, but they also do a variety of other dishes, I like the duck rice. There's also Forno Fraser's the pizza place near the post office & I think t...

Another good newsletter, I look forward to reading them every month.
Does anyone take pantomime seriously? Would kind of defeat the purpose I'd have thought.
I love watching AmDram, often hysterically funny. Though I have had to leave more than once because I couldn't stop laughing.

Re: Attack in Messines
EMM you really are very stupid, what does whether I need to work or not have anything to do with it, either way why on earth would I "not be bothered" to see the country I love & have chosen to make my home in go even further into recession? I do, however, want to know if there are crimes going on i...

Re: Attack in Messines
I would want to know of any crime problems in any area I lived in wherever I was in the world. What is the point of constantly comparing the problems in the Algarve with what's happening in the UK? Perhaps some people should stop showing so much concern for their bank balance & more for the Algarve ...

Re: Tolls!
We've noticed the increased traffic on the N125 when we cross it at the Guia round about, at certain times of the day it can take ages so what on earth the traffic is going to be like when the season kicks in I hate to think. It'll be just like the good old days.

Firstly aitch, if you have offered space for the OP, then good for you. I hope it works out for both of you. However, the slight deviation was a dig at the sponging so and soes, who park up for the winter, making the place look untidy and possibly helping themselves to local resources that have bee...

Re: New tax on rental properties?
I think there must be a government plot to end tourism in the Algarve what with the new taxes on restaurants/bars, golf & holiday rental, road tolls & ridiculous licences. They might as well just put a closed sign up.

Because Biffa has a 'vested' interest.

I think most of the rest of europe carry I.D cards by law, something the Brit's are against for some reason.
