I saw ashtrays in various bars this week where I don't think smoking would be allowed (assuming the rules about enclosures are similar to England where you now never see ashtrays in similar circumstances) but didn't actually see anyone smoking in these areas

After we had spent several holidays in the Algarve, in 2004 I decided to enrol on a Portuguese course at a local college in Reading. I am still attending college, now at Kingston and take the GCSE in Portuguese this summer (a frightening thought as it's a few years since I took any exams...). I was ...

Great to see the photos as I'd been trying to imagine what it might look like. Fond memories of staggering onto that beach on the night of my birthday back in March in unsuitable footwear and being told I was mad (at least I didn't try to get back into the wrong room at the CVO Sol as did the person...

When I was trying to sort out buying a villa last year, I had a couple of short breaks of a few days in CVO staying at Palm Gardens (where we'd previously stayed ) and had no problems. I was staying in the villa this October on my own, trying to sort out the licence for the pool, and went to the bea...

When we were in CVO in early December last year I particularly liked the toy Father Christmases suspended from balconies etc on rope ladders or similar structures. There were some on the road from the airport. They made it seem quite Christmasey (although as I was with the original Bah Humbug, not r...

I love reading the newsletter as it bring places/events to life when I'm back in cold dark England and reminds me of the attraction of CVO (if I ever needed reminding). Well done!

I was in CVO from 8 to 12 October and bought the badge on the first day. I wore it every day and didn't see anyone else until I was walking down the road from Rascals (having called in for the meet-up on the Wednesday evening and not seen anyone there) when Baggy and Sally Jane saw me (with the badg...

I bought a kingsize bed from Sofavip earlier this year which I've been very pleased with. They do free delivery, assemble the furniture, take all the packaging away and always turn up on the correct day etc ringing first. Bought two single beds from them later for the other bedroom as the kingsize b...

Having just returned from a few wonderfully sunny days in CVO, I needed to go various places in Lagoa (architects for pool licence, Cozequipa etc) and stopped every day for a coffee in the little cafe in Lagoa called Quiosque de 5 Outubro. I loved it's simple local feel (and the prices were so diffe...

I'm really glad I read these posts last week when I was in CVO as I was about to buy a load of wood in anticipation of the next visit when it will be colder. It would have been really bad news to have had it stolen so thanks for the advice.

We've stayed at Palm Gardens 4 or 5 times ranging from 1 night to 10 nights (so not long stay) and at Rocha Brava once for 3 nights. This has always been out of season (Dec to March). We've much preferred Palm Gardens for location, quality of accommodation/fittings etc We've always ended up with a l...
