Re: Weather and car rentals
I and family have used Algarvedriver several times. So far no probelms. They operate a 'booking points' system. After several bokings you can be eligible for a free weeks hire in the low season. Useful if frequent visitor. Even during previous years car hire shortage, managed to get a car albeit sen...

Re: FARO AIRPORT CLOSED
B#gger! My wife was due to arrive 2moro after cancelling at last minute when I flew here on Friday! Checked Faro website, departures all listed as 'scheduled' but several arrivals showing over 45 minutes delay. Remember arrival/departure hall regularly flooded when heavy rain.

Talk in the town is about getting the raincoats looked out for tomorow. Ah well, just find a pub with plenty of sport on TV.

Re: cvo here we come
Hi Cumbria Sue. Interested in fact you taking ferry across Channel. Did you consider Channel Tunnel? I did a couple of routemasters from Central Scotland to CVO and they suggested channel train. But then don't really know how these websites work. Do they take account of ferries? We're visiting CVO e...

Re: Anyone eaten in The Olive Tree?
Eaten at Olive Tree, VDO, on 3 occasions. Always impressed with quality of food. In June 2011 we tried the 7 (? can't remember actual number!) course taster menu. Very good! They also did an Early Bird menu (6pm to 7 or 7.30 pm). it was good value. The Head Chef got to the fianl of the Portugese ver...

Re: Spa day for the elderly help wanted
We've recently used most of the facilities at Vale d'Oliverias except the Spa (which I admit doesn't really answer your question), however, the indoor pool (you require a bathing cap 'cos of 'elf and safety), outdoor pool are great and the Olive Tree Restaurant is excellant. Between 6.30 and 7.30 pm...

Re: beach
The owners have built a 10 room boutique hotel at the top of the road from the restaurant. Hotel called Casa Rei das Praias, not surprising. Not heard any reports yet but pictures of hotel look impressive. Article in April - May edition of Essential Algarve. Appreciate publication primarily an advet...
