Re: Ryanair flights Luton and Manchester

That's a pretty sweeping statement, Pato. Take this question as it is intended, that is not as a provocation, but would you perhaps share your experiences that would lead you to make it?
I'm English by the way.

Re: Tourist killed in Carvoeiro

I don't know I'm afraid. I've been to the beach but haven't swum from there. As you look out to sea it is to the right of the town beach. Access is via steps a little over halfway up the hill leading from the square, past the ice cream parlour up to Monte Carvoeiro.

Re: Prevalence of mushrooms in Portuguese dishes

I won't pretend my Portuguese is up to this but Google Translate gives the following for, "Please, I am allergic to mushrooms".

Por favor, sou alérgico aos cogumelos.

If you go on to GT you can hear it spoken by a native Portuguese speaker.

Re: Fish cataplana recommendations

I do know O Barril and have really enjoyed their piri piri. Wanted a place that didn't involve driving, but will put them on the cataplana visit list for future reference! :D

Re: Fish cataplana recommendations

I think you're right about the small prawns. Quite like that though - they could quite easily have dropped a few Iceland jobs in, but kept it authentic. There was indeed a huge prawn in there. Could have passed for a lobster at a distance. A nice experience at Chefe Antonio. I don't know why we've n...

Re: Faro Airport

We had a similar experience recently. An added concern was security. A man in front of me went through the scanner wearing a wristwatch and Granville style medallion, both clearly visible. Not only did the staff not ask him to remove them, the scanner did not so much as bleep. My brother went throug...

Re: Boat trip

Just in case it's helpful to anyone else, we ended up doing the trip to Silves on http://river-caves-sea-trips.com/ Cost was €20 reserved in advance by e.mail with Antonio. Learned on the boat that some people had paid €25 at the quayside booth in Portimao but luckily a mutiny was averted...

Re: Fish cataplana recommendations

Just for info for those people who kindly offered their recommendations, we opted for Chefe Antonio. Fisherman's cataplana now €15 and was served without small prawns at our visit. I enjoyed it but can't say I was bowled over. My brother, however, something of a seafood aficionado, was very impresse...

Re: Tivoli Refurbishment

We've stayed at these apartments a few times. We had a one bed on the first floor with a sea view. Ours had rather old fashioned but very high quality furnishings and was spacious, well equipped and clean. As there are so few apartments the pool was often empty. Run by a nice chap called Dieter when...

Thank you both. Over next week and, on the basis that I imagine it will probably have the better atmosphere at this time of year, will give A Gale a go.

Fish cataplana recommendations

Looking for recommendations in town. Have eaten the cataplana at Jota Lita, which was good, but my research seems to be pointing at Casa Palmeiras as the one to beat in Carvoeiro itself (rather than the surrounding area as I prefer not to drive). Any views on this restaurant's offering, or other rec...
