Re: Diy materials

If you want the generic B&Q experience I would suggest Leroy Merlin, towards Albufeira. Anything from a nut and bolt upwards. Multilingual website with stock indicator, helpful English speaking staff if you need that. Be a bit Portuguese about the visit and pop into Armacao de Pera for a few hours o...

Re: Car Rental

Been using YOR 4 or 5 times a year for many years now. Few (3) problems over that time resolved amicably. Cars clean and accessible within a few minutes of the gates. Several free car rentals at low season due loyalty discount.

Re: Car Hire

You don't say how you're getting from the airport, but for a week you might find a basic car hire not much different from transfer costs plus occasional hire - no trekking to pick up/ drop off and you get the chance to see more Algarve.

Re: Ryanair vs Easyjet

We find the overall cost has to include travel/ parking as well as flight. So from the west country RY BOH is cheapest until staying over perhaps a week, then the competitive benefits of multiple carriers kick in and LGW operators win after including a couple of senior returns by train (cheaper than...

Re: Hop on - Hop off bus

Useful, is this in addition to the Farol de Alfanzina bus stop on the main road or as an alternate?

Re: Hop on - Hop off bus

The bus stop in the resort Rocha Brava is probably for their own service to the square. The bus stop Farol de Alfanzina on the timetable is at the T junction just past Jardim do Farol.

Re: Jardin do Farol

Sounds good to me! Obviously depends on size of fish (Portarade Ferragudo will include in their €11 3 course offering, but much smaller) and season. Enjoy your stay.

Re: Jardin do Farol

Glad all seems well. I'm pretty sure that Francisco's fish offerings were in the €14 range a couple of years ago and are now typically €16 (or £18 at Cardiff airport rates!). The brothers /sister (as I understand) running front of house haven't changed and perhaps things have settled down out back. ...

Re: Lost hand luggage with wedding dress

We flew from LGW Gate 2 yesterday on Monarch ZB214 (14:40 dept.) While waiting we watched security open a case containing a carefully folded wedding dress and take it away. Any chance it never made the flight? What gate was the Norwegian flight booked from.

Re: Jardin do Farol

Likewise my first meal was around 2002 and Carlos went out of his way to provide me and my son with an excellent Sardine meal when we turned up "on spec" mid afternoon. Subsequently we have visited several times per year, but even allowing for fresh Dorade it just seems to have got more expensive (n...

Re: Jardin do Farol

I've heard that it has gone downhill since Carlos's second wife took the reigns - this from an ex waiter who now works at O Stop. Certainly the last two times I was there
the ambience was subdued. Pricing has been an issue for a couple of years..(btw - I think it's Jardim..)

Re: Car rental, yes again.

I'm far from being an experienced player, but why not support the forum and use the Algarve Driver price match? We've always found decent cars available directly at the airport.
