Re: EHIC/GHIC & Registration
Hi Geoff, There are many sources of information but the SEF website should be authoritative as they are responsible for administering the Registration process. https://brexit.sef.pt/en/faqs/ As I previously mentioned I had already registered before Brexit went live and believe that I am protected un...

Re: EHIC/GHIC & Registration
I am sure that you are correct Sam. My problem is that the Atestado isn't proof of residency so I can't register on the SEF portal for the temporary card. However, a very helpful chap at SEF has taken my details and assures me that they are compiling a list of foreign ex pats who do not have Residen...

Re: EHIC/GHIC & Registration
No I think the D7 Visa is different. I gathered this information through my research. No impact on tax but not sure about EHIC or Driving Licence yet. This may be time limited and related to the withdrawal agreement. Some comments I've read refer to end of June 2021 deadline for applications. Portug...

Re: EHIC/GHIC & Registration
To cut a long story short we abandoned our plans to travel. Decided that it was too risky, too cold (in Algarve), too expensive (covid testing) and we probably wouldn't be welcome. On return, eventually, I have ascertained that we need to go to Lagoa Town Hall and apply to upgrade our Atestado da Re...

Re: Schengen visa rules
Those with second homes At least 500,000 people have invested in buying and renovating properties in parts of Europe in anticipation of spending long periods at their ‘other’ home and perhaps retiring there. It is estimated that second home owners have property worth some £30 billion. If this was a ...

Re: EHIC/GHIC
we did it just in case we got a "no deal" Brexit and we wanted stay more than 90 days in any 180. It only costs a few euro so seemed like a sensible move. Looks as if the Brexit deal will go through today, but it's still 90 days in any 180 though...it would be nice if Portugal, if not EU, granted a...

Re: EHIC/GHIC
I don't know. I am not a Non Habitual Resident and am domiciled in the UK for tax purposes. I have a Portuguese registered company (my villa ) and pay income tax on rental income. I recover IVA on allowable expenses and pay the maids social security costs in addition to her salary. All my other worl...

Re: EHIC/GHIC
Thanks for your reply Geoff. I hope your assessment is right as we have booked expensive Covid tests at Boots Pharmacy to meet the criteria to fly. You're right about the Atestado we did it just in case we got a "no deal" Brexit and we wanted stay more than 90 days in any 180. It only costs a few eu...

Re: EHIC/GHIC
Do you know whether an Astestado de Residencia certificate is sufficient evidence to qualify you to board a flight to Portugal ? I know you need a Covid test certificate, passport etc. but it's proof of residency, if you have a UK passport, that interests me. I am not NHR and pay all my taxes in the...

Hi Geoff,
Maybe this should be posted in the Ramblers section of the forum, it hasn't got much to do with Faro Airport ?

Re: Leaking pools
Thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like a great cheap and easy fix.
Do you think it would work with other leaking systems e.g. Underfloor heating, solar panel circulation ?

Don’t think the local businesses would agree with your sentiments. The Algarve we all know and love cannot survive without tourists.
Suggest you adopt sensible shielding protocol if you are high risk and let the restaurateurs and bar owners make a living !

...I'm sure I will be....but no insurance, no Via Algarviana, no Wednesday nor Monday walks (as we know them anyway) ....possibly no zumba/aerobics....at least you can cycle! Have fun. It's all still very civilised Geoff and significantly more orderly than the UK. Pleased you got home safely - at o...

Re: The great covid-19 con trick !!
There are two salient points I think. 1 This forum is dead and that is why so few people respond to any post on any topic. 2 The world is confused and perplexed and there aren't any trusted experts in whom we can place our trust. A "perfect storm" exaggerated by Social & Professional media and fed t...

Re: Faro Airport
Despite the new restrictions being adopted here in Portugal we are still not sure whether to return to UK. It looks like the pandemic is spreading faster in UK with infection rates per 100,000 approximately double that of Portugal. The Algarve still seems safer than Bristol where the high student po...
