Tradesmen recommendations
Hi all, I need to arrange a couple of largish jobs on the villa - - Install around 150m of fencing (probably plasticated mesh of 1m high with galvanized tubing) - Rip up and replace terracotta tiling surrounding the pool, a large area, which may also involve removal of a very large tree, the roots o...

Re: 5* Development in Sesmarias
Hang in there! We have had our place on the statue roundabout between CVO and Sesmarias for 25 years - back then it was rural and peaceful which was the main selling point but now the town has grown up the hill and started to surround us. We had to put up with so much noise and dirt from the buildin...

Re: OS 3 Jotas
I used to love this place years ago but for me it just went downhill and sold it's soul to mass tourism. The last time I went (and it WAS the last time) the fish soup was tinned and horrible and the menu had stuff like egg mayo on it. They used to get home made piri piri sauce from someone in Silves...

Supermarkets and Car Hire
Hi, I'm arriving late one Saturday in October - I seem to remember the Intermarche is not open on a Sunday but last week in Tavira I found a Pingo Doce supermarket open 7 days til 9pm, does CVO have one nearby? I heard there is one near the Lagoa roundabout, true? Is it 7 days? I'll want to hire a c...

Faro to Seville
Hi, what public transport links are there? I understand Eurolines do this route but their website is hopeless. Is there a direct coach/bus service and how long does it take? Alternatively I can take a train to Ayamonte then get a bus there?

I often use the train. Taxi from airport to station, train to Silves then taxi from there. A bus meets most trains at Silves and takes you down to the taxi rank or it's a ten minute walk. Not the quickest way but pleasant, especially if there's a bar on board.

Van hire
OK I give up...I've searched the net for companies which will hire vans (light goods van, not MPV) but can't find one. Does anyone know of a company that does, preferably one that will deliver to Faro airport. Or can someone lend me one this weekend/Monday???

Dumping stuff
I need to dump stuff like old windows, doors, bits of metal, wood, maybe also a fridge. Can anyone tell me where I can take it? Or alternatively where I can hire a skip from? Thank you.

I have taken the train from Barreiro station (this was due to be changed - Lisbon has 5 stations so check) to Silves via Tunes, then either bus (via Lagoa) or taxi from Silves. It's about a 5 hour journey but you can sit at the window with a bottle of Sagres and watch the country pass by and it's re...
