Re: Exchanging UK Drivers licence to PT one
I did mine two weeks ago. You need: medical certificate, residencia and a copy, drivers licence, your contribuinte card and a copy and 30 euros. Best advice is to get to IMT in Faro as early as possible as they only issue 40 tickets per day and the backlog is horrendous. We got there at 7.45 and the...

Re: Premier FX - MOST URGENT
I think everyone ought to stop speculating and brandishing their own take on what has happened. Peter Rexstrew went into hospital for a routine triple bypass heart operation from which he never recovered and sadly passed away. Do you think he wanted to die? He has left two very upset and emotional c...

Re: Closing bank account
You will more than likely have to go to the bank in person. After all you cannot close a bank account in the UK over the telephone. Security matter. Just suppose someone rang your bank purporting to be you and closed your bank account. No evidence that the person closing it is the account holder.

Re: Property Insurance
You do have to have earthquake insurance. The excess with an Ibex policy is 75 euros whereas Portuguese policies are generally a lot more.

If there is a place name then the road through is 50. I always work on the maxim if in doubt do 50.

Re: Property Insurance
I have got my car and house insurance with Ibex in Almancil. Their cover is tons better than Abbeygate. All their policies are in English so easy to understand and they explain everything.

Re: 183 days in Portugal and ferry crossing probs
When we moved here we did the trip from Portsmouth to Cherbourg with our cat. We had a cabin and Sasha stayed in the car. She wasn't restricted to being kept in a box or cat basket, she slept on the front passenger seat and was fine. With regard to the 183 days, this relates to the length of time a ...

Re: 2 month stay
Most of the stuff you would buy in the UK is readily available here now as more of the supermarkets are importing British foods. Personally I would shop at the likes of Lidl, Aldi, Intermarche, Continente and not Iceland as they tend to be more expensive for the British stuff.

Looking for an optician
Does anyone know if there is an optician in the Carvoeiro area who doesn't charge an arm and a leg. I will shortly need to have my eyes tested ( I do this every 2 years), and the last time the eye test, glasses frames and lens cost over 400 euros. I cannot afford to go down thisd route again. So if ...

Re: Luggage in cars
I wouldn't say that crime is "rife". It is no different here than in the UK. Would you leave your belongings on the back seat of the car covered with a sheet? I don't think you would so why think that it is OK here? Opportunists live and operate everywhere in the world. You just need to exercise due...

Re: Tv question
There is no point in bringing your sky card with you. Sky moved their satellite over 2 years ago and since then no sky programmes have been available. Your best bet would be to get a MAG250 box which will give you all the UK TV programmes and the sky ones as well. It will require an internet connect...

Re: Residence Permit
Presumably you are moving here lock stock and barrel. Are you bringing all your possessions including furniture etc. Why do you need this documentation? We moved here 10 years ago and unless things have changed dramatically we did not need to do this.

Re: Mortgage
Give Gary at Portugal Mortgages a ring. Afraid I don't have his number but if you google him you should find it. He is a mortgage broker and should be able to help.
