Re: Capital Gains & Lawyers
Not our fiscal rep & POA said he has no tax liability. Fiscal rep is happy for him not to keep money back but lawyer says it's normal procedure.

Capital Gains & Lawyers
Does anyone know, if you sell a property in Portugal and the lawyer had POA to sign documents & receive money etc, does he then have an obligation to hold onto some of the sale proceeds until you've had your final tax return because he's legally responsible for making sure you pay all your taxes? Th...

Re: Al registration tax query
Thanks - exactly what we understood and exactly what we said to the accountant. They're seriously suggesting people should pay CGT on a 'transaction' that they concede is completely imaginary. Maybe this fictitious CGT liability can be dealt with in their imaginations too!

Al registration tax query
For part of the year we let our property as a holiday rental - legal, licensed, income declared & taxes paid. In 2015 we complied with Decree Law 128/2014 and registered a "business activity." Our accountant told us this week that in doing that, our property immediately became allocated to the AL bu...

Re: Possible additional tax demands
As I understand it, this isn't recovering unpaid tax but changing what expenses are allowable and then applying those changes retrospectively. People could only pay the tax they were asked for according to the rules as they applied at the time so in previous years the tax they want to claim now wasn...

Possible additional tax demands
We had an e-mail last week from our management company to say they've been advised that the Financas are now intending to try to claw extra tax back from the years 20111 - 2014 from people who own property in Portugal and sometimes rent it out as a holiday let. They're only going to allow expenses t...

Re: Changes to the reporting of letting income
Could I ask another question about this approaching change? We understand from our property manager that invoices will have to be issued for each paying guest (ie group/family). For a few years now, we've arranged all our own bookings which have largely come from the UK with money in GBP, although w...

New tax on rental properties?
We've heard the Portuguese govmnt are set to levy a 75 euro per month tax on all properties available for rent to tourists. Anyone know if this is true?

Replacement LNB on satellite dish.
We've been charged 90 euros to replace the LNB on our satellite dish (currently in UK or I'm pretty sure I could've done it myself!) This sounds a lot to me - am I being unreasonable? (Only a 2 bed apt - not a major climb to the top of a massive villa!)

Water meter law?
We've been told there's now a law in Portugal that all utility meters now have to be outside, visible to utility companies. Our water meter is inside so this means it needs to be moved. Is this a new law? Does anyone know anything about it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Tax allowances
Sorry Widge - I mean what can we claim against on our Portuguese tax return - not UK.
Basically we've been told we can't claim for cleaning or utilities when villa occupied by renting guests - friends have been told they can.
Just wondered if anyone knows who's right. Thanks.

Tax allowances
Can anyone clarify what's deductible for the purposes of Portuguese tax declaration? We have a villa we rent out (tourist licence pending and have had permission to rent from lawyer who's dealing with it) and we declare our income for Portuguese tax. Our managing agent maintains cleaning/laundry and...

Sounds simple but apparently there maybe a problem area. My understanding is that it's the original electrician/gas technician (ie the one who installed the stuff) who's meant to take responsibility. If places were built some time ago - and have changed hands since - it may be impossible to find out...

Anyone know of any further developments with the renting legislation fiasco? Heard the authorities were 're-looking' at it but have heard nothing for months.
